She had to drive herself.

Recommended Posts

My surgery center is outpatient center. While my DH was in the waiting room, he said a woman and her husband came in to check her in. Then he left her there. She told my DH that her husband was dead set against this operation. He wouldn't do anything to help or support her. She even had to drive herself to the center. He came only because she needed to be driven home. He didn't go with her into the pre-surgery or recovery area at all. Not before. Not after. He was just there to drive her home. She was so sad.:cry

That's so sad. I will not get banded until July 12, but I have had nothing but great support from all of my family. I don't think I could do this alone and without their support. I hate the fact that some people are so alone on this journey. That would be so hard to do.

Well kudos to her for being THAT brave in her resolve to change her life and get healthy WITHOUT any support. That's really sad, but oddly inspiring.

My DH does not seem interested or excited for me and I have kind of felt lousy about that, and wished he were more "with me" in this. Hearing about this makes me realise I have it pretty good.

Gosh, that is so sad..."They" say we gain our weight with friends and family, but we all lose it alone. What a vivid picture of that this poor dear woman was...I hope she finds us.

He sounds very controlling. She may find in the months to come that she's better off without him. For her sake, I hope that his piss poor attitude toward her improving her health is temporary.

This is a great saying and it is so true most of the time. I am really lucky to have such a supportive family, even if most of them do not understnad, and worry about the surgery. But I have to say that what that husband did is awful!!

Truly sad and breaks my heart. :cry If I would have known of someone like this on my floor at the hospital, I would have sent my DH down to check on her and he would have done it. Bless his heart....he slept on a cot in my room and woke up everytime I needed anything. What goes around comes around.

He is either a total jerk or he was so afraid something might happen to her and HE would be alone - that it turned him into a total jerk....just a thought....

Oh, I feel terrible for her. Not only for surgery day, but can you imagine what it will be like for her later on? Do you know why he was against the surgery?

I'm lucky, I'll have DH and my mom there with me on surgery day, and DH is taking a couple of days off to make sure I'm OK.

I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of the idea when DH got his. I was very worried something would go wrong with the surgery. I also wondered if he'd be able to make the changes he needed to afterwards. But I was there for him on surgery day, and ever since.

No. DH probably didn't ask her, anyway. I would have, but that's not him. Besides, he was a little antsy because I wasn't *done* as soon as they told him I would be. He finally had to go to the desk to inquire. It took me longer in recovery than usual and he insisted that he be allowed in. Politely put, I think. He was going to find me irregardless! Now THAT's the kind of support we need!:clap2: :clap2:

How sad that someone who should have been her biggest support put that extra burden on her on what's at best a difficult journey. I don't understand how someone who supposedly loves her could do that. I, too, hope she find this group.

I agree with 3loves, what goes around, comes around.....that guy will get his sooner or later, and kudos to the wife for sticking to her guns.

Oh my gosh, that story truly horrifies me. My DH would have been in the OR with me if he could have, (bless his silly little heart) So its unthinkable for me to hear of a husband that is so unsupportive. I give that woman tons of credit for going through with the surgery to possibly save her health and posssibly her life alone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
