I just started mine yesterday and it wasn't too bad actually. Today's a little rocky but I just keep telling myself it's not forever and it's sooo worth it in the long run! Keep your chin up! It will be ok! :-)

Hey there! I did 16 days of liquid diet prior to my surgery day last Tuesday...it's tough but you can get through it!! After a week of clear fluids, I graduated yesterday to full liquids and enjoyed some lobster bisque. Never tasted so good! Aside from that, I feel great and lost 12 pounds in the first week - keep remembering your ultimate goal and why you're doing this FOR yourself during the liquid diet (not TO yourself), and it'll help you make it there.

I've also been communicating with other April sleevers that had their surgery right around the same time as me - it's great if you find a couple of people here that are going through this with you at the same time, because you are sharing the same experiences while they're happening and you feel much less alone. Just remember there's an entire community out there pulling for you!!

The two weeks pre-op isn't as nasty as it sounds. You will just need to find the Protein that you like to get through it. I like the Atkins low carb/low sugar drinks, mostly the dark chocolate. When you drink other things, mix up between fruity for fast drinks and the savory for when you need something salty. Beef broths have been my stand by for that, get a hot cup of Water and disolve a boulon cube in it. At night I would have a strained Soup different flavors. Hope this helps!

Bill, I was sleeved last Wednesday, was told I could do the full liquids on the Sunday afterwards. Doing ok so far. No real bad things going on except having to take my damn pills which is seriously gross when you have to crush them. lol

Hope everyones journey goes well, it will be a bumpy road here and there but so worth it in the end when you see, feel and hear the difference in your body!

I was sleeved on the 26th and understand the pill problem too! I was having a terrible time getting them down after they were crushed -- I wanted to chug Water to get the yukky taste out of my mouth. I found an easy way to dissolve the pills and get them down is to put them in 1 tablespoon of unsweetened applesauce (I mix it in a shot glass). I stir it up really well and then just sort of "sip" it down. It's made a tremendous difference and I get all of the medication down (when I crushed it and tried to mix it with water there were all these little grains in the bottom).

I am on my 4th day of the post op diet. When you start just hang in there. I can truly say that every day gets a bit better. You know what the end goal is.

Thanks, Empress! I am going to try that I have been putting the crushed tab on the applesause and taking it that way but that bitter gross taste is still there. I'll try the desolving them in it and see how that works! Down to ten pills so far daily. I have eliminated the 4 fish oil, 2 gemfibrizols, 2 metformins and 2 Niaspans for the next two weeks until they do additional blood work to see how things are. I shouldnt complain lol from 20 to 10 in one day not too shabby!

Thanks guys, the encouragement means soo much. I don't mind the protien shakes. I actually like several. I know which ones I like from previous serious workout periods.

Does anyone know if cottage cheese is ok during this week?

I dont think cottage cheese is good for the pre-op. I am told that would be good for the mushies.

Empress, I tried it your way and GAGGED big time, thought my sleeve was gonna split on me it was so bad lol. Hubby and I were talking about it and we are going to try Jello shots! Crush the tab and put it in the middle of a Jello shot and swish down it goes. Wish me luck, I'll let you know how it goes.

Raine:

Sorry to hear the applesauce didn't work for you. I have only 2 small pills so maybe that's the limit. Let me know how the jello shots work, I'm always open to try new things (at least once anyway).

Here is what I had today. 1/2 cup cottage cheese (ok I know) muscle milk Protein shake and coffee for lunch. Yogurt late afternoon. Bowl of broth and a Greek yogurt for dinner. With some Water throughout the day.

Pasquini:

I so understand what you're going through. The liquid preop phase was very hard for me. Early in the process (day 3 or 4) I broke down and had some chicken -- I figured it was Protein and since it was boneless and skinless it wasn't going to really "hurt" me. Turned out that it didn't. It was much easier to stick with the liquids the second week.

You CAN do it. You're gonna be THE WINNER in the Pasquini 500! Sleek GTO kickin' ass big time don't ya know!

I think it is wrong to expect you to do liquids only with the job. Speak to your doctor about perhaps adding some chicken and a vegetable at night- keeping to the low carb thing but giving you some more substance. I have been ok on the liquids but I am nearly sedentary in my work.

Take care of yourself! AT least make sure you have 4 0r 5 shakes a day- keep that Protein in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
