My surgery is this Friday

Recommended Posts

After a long wait; My surgery is this Friday and I am so Nervous.. I have been wanting this for a long time. So why am I so nervous and scared.

I was fine until the doctor told me I had gallstones and he needed to take out my gallbladder too he is going to do it all together. Every since then I have been nervous and scared. What else is gonna happen.

Is this normal to feel this way 2 days before surgery. I should be happy and excited. I have a 5year old and if something bad should happen. I'm so scared for him. Any words of advice would be wonderful.

Umonica what you're feeling is perfectly normal!! I was terrified about surgery--just the fact of having any kind of surgery is pretty scary if you're new at it. And this was only my second time ever under general anaesthesia.

I comforted myself by thinking about all the millions of people who have successful surgery each and every day around the world. And no doubt there would be scores, if not hundreds, of general anaesthesia procedures in my very hospital the very same day. When I put it in that perspective my little 45-minute operation seemed very minor. Yours may be a little longer, but both procedures are ROUTINELY done via laparoscope these days, and it really is simple and quick.

GOOD LUCK! I won't say don't worry because I know how hard it is not to, especially with little ones at home. Worry is normal. Just try to get some sleep and concentrate on the day AFTER. And give your baby an extra hug tonight.

Hi umonica,

Congrats on your surgery. I was scared but also really excited about starting this new part of my life. Alexandra is right, these are relatively routine surgeries and before you know it you'll be done and ready to start anew. The gallbladder part will probably only add fifteen minutes or so to your surgery time. You may have a little more tenderness but the incisions are basically the same for both procedures. Just think you are getting two for one. You won't have to go in later for a second surgery!!! Take it as easy as you can and try to get some sleep tonight (not an easy task!).

Good Luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
