Hey everyone.. I'm on the 9th I will be six months post op. When I started my journey I was 235., as of today I am 158. I know that is a huge loss and I'm grateful for each and every pound. I am starting to get concerned because I still have 28 pound til I reach my goal. Was I supposed to be at or closer to my goal at this point? 77 pounds lost should it be more? Please give me some insight....

You have lost over 70% of your Excess weight in 6 months, and that is what matters. You can not compare actual pounds lost because each person's loss is individual, there are too many factors that go into pounds lost per patient. When it comes down it, your first 12 months post-op is maximum time to reach 100% EWL (excess weight lost). I had more weight to lose than you did, plus my body is different than yours. In my opinion, this is the time for your to evaluate what you've been doing, and make sure you are remaining diligent to the program. Around 7-8 months, I noticed I could eat more food, and I was below goal, but making the "best choice" was a lot tougher than it was the first 6 months. You can and will get to goal.

My surgeon said when questioned at support group on average women lose for 12-14 months, although there is no reason one could not continue to lose indefinitely if one continues to follow the program - Protein first, no refined carbs, exercise, etc. Just will come off more slowly. I certainly plan to lose another 100 pounds no matter how long it takes. But the most rapid weight loss occurs in the first 6-8 months or so as Tiffykins said.

mskissty! I think u are doing great! I think when you lose at a steady pace you have a tendency to keep it off. Great job so far. Just keep plugging away and work that sleeve.

Thanks everyone.. I just wasn't sure if I was supposed to be at goal or not.. I am still losing so I still have a green light. I really do have to become more diligent in my exercise. I still eat very few carbs so my diet is going well. I am afraid that when I start adding more carbs that I will begin to gain weight so I'm pretty conscience of that.. What do you all think? Crazy?

Hey, I'm gonna jump in here -- I'm 8 months out in a couple of days -- I'm about 20 lbs from the top end of my goal -- and I'm low carbing till I reach the top end of my goal and then I'm gonna start adding in some carbs -- I gain weight in an instant with carbs, so I have to take it slowly and carefully -- but that said, everyone is different -- :) Hope that helps!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
