had the sweats, dizziness and almost passed out!

Recommended Posts

Last night at about 10 PM I had the cold sweats all over my body, dizzy, shaking, felt like I was going to throw up (but didn't) I breathed through it and it passed within about 5-6 minutes. It was really pretty awful. This sounds like dumping syndrome, right? Does anyone know what would have caused this so late at night? I drank some Water and chewed on some ice cubes about 30 minutes before, could that have caused it??? I was doing so well with getting my liquids in, etc and now I am scared to drink today.

Your body is in shock. All your hormones, blood sugars, etc...are out of whack! I don't think it was "dumping syndrome," just your body freaking out a bit.

I remember how I felt in first few weeks after surgery. I will not kid you, it's a wooley-booger! But it will get better...PROMISE!! At 4 days out all you really need to do is concentrate on getting your fluids in.

I pray you feel better VERY soon!! ;)

Sounds like a vasovagal syncope or nerve reaction, which is also pretty much what dumping is except the source of the problem is different. I've had those reactions on a few occasions that mostly were caused by severe pain. For instance, a biopsy of my uterus caused it once. I doubt it will happen again, but if it does I'm not sure there is much you could do other than lying flat on your back to prevent fainting (syncope). It is very unpleasant and I'm so sorry it happened! Are you otherwise feeling better?

Doesn't hurt to check w your doc. I will tell you that I had the shakesat 5 days post op. I was just freezing and shaking and my doc it could have been an aftereffect from the anesthesia.

Never take anything so lightly, please check in with your surgeon. A simple call is all is necessary and I'm sure if they feel it's best for you to go to the hospital they will let you know. Otherwise you just underwent very major surgery, and in time you will adjust and begin to feel better every day. You have to take it easy as well. Get plenty of rest, it could be you're pushing yourself too much - if you are you need to take a step back.

Wishing you well!!

Thanks ladies. I should of also mention that I attended a friend's daughter's one year old birthday part and now that I am thinking of it--maybe I just pushed myself to hard and perhaps it caught up with me at the end of the day. I am calling my surgeon soon too. Thanks guys.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
