I have not had surgery yet but that has been one of my fears from hearing it from other fellow WLS patients. What i have heard and read is that NIOXIN is a very good product to help..mainly what it seems to do is when you loose a hair...everyone has hormones on your scalp that if the hormone gets into your folicule area it will actually kill the chance for that hair to grow back...so one of the things this product does is treat your scalp so that this does not happen...plus it motivates hair growth....check into it....maybe it will work...is so let me know...i hope that it does..i already bought it...lol

It's very common after any weight loss surgery. Your body is adapting to a drasticly new reality.

It is temporary, it will grow back. But I've heard it happens about a 2-4 months post surgery and lasts for about 6 months. From what I've heard (I haven't been sleeved yet so take it for what it's worth).

I just started using Nioxin as my hair seems to be falling out at a normal rate now 10 months out. I can tell a difference in just a few days with how my hair feels -- stronger, almost coated but not in a bad way. It's hard to explain. It looks a little fuller, too. I'm hoping it will stimulate growth but too soon to tell.

My cousin who is a hair dresser says she heard that Ovation Cell Therapy products stimulate growth for people who've had chemotherapy or other Hair loss like us. Supposedly it's a product that really works. I haven't checked the site out yet, but just the name sounds extremely expensive.

I second the Nioxin. I lucked out and got a 45 dollar size bottle for 9.99 at Ulta!

I used Nioxin and it didn't help one bit. All it did was make my hair dry.

I lost about 2/3 of my hair and I took every Vitamin and supplement or Shampoo i was told about. I got all my Protein in from day one. I've been taking Biotin since 06. I don't know if it helped, but I take it anyway.

I have new hair growing in all over the place

My hair is coming out and I look like a burn victim on my face. Both have been happening about 2 months. I am at 5.5 months post op now. I'm told both revers themselves after a year. I'm going for steroids on Wednesday. I'll ask about the scalp treatment too. I'm guessing it a prescription.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
