Dixies Mom 0 Posted May 1, 2011 Help! I'm post-op day 6 and feeling weak. The Protein Shakes aren't agreeing with my tummy at all. I'm tolerating broth very well and am getting in at least 72 oz of Fluid per day that is Water or decaffeinated iced tea. Is it ok to blend Soups like chicken noodle with more broth before heating them? This way it's still a liquid Soup but with Protein in it? I don't like this feeling. Any help is appreciated! SouthernSleever 228 Posted May 1, 2011 Get some coconut milk, drink apple juice, or chicken broth. I'd even drink some cream of chicken if you are feeling weak as long as you aren't on clears.
Dixies Mom 0 Posted May 1, 2011 I'm supposed to be on a full liquid diet now. Right now I'm just eating the broth from some of the progresso soups--like chicken noodle--but don't want to waste all the good stuff!

Is it ok to blend Soups like chicken noodle with more broth before heating them? This way it's still a liquid Soup but with Protein in it? I don't like this feeling. Any help is appreciated! For the next 30 days you have full permission from the universe to be wasteful. If you, like I, are on full liquids you can use cream of chicken soup which you then strain with metal/wire strainer. Those bits and pieces are very dangerous at this window. The creamed soups will fill you a bit more so take them slow. (Any creamed soup, I like cream of mushroom myself. ) The brother of chicken noodle soup is much more tasty than plain broth but again, strain. Toss the noodles and bits of chicken. Very little likes me these days and I'm not even coming close to 60 grams of protein a day. But I'm getting all of my need Fluid and working on the protein. I don't like sweets to begin with so the pre-mixed drinks do not agree with me either. I know it's going to be a long month before I get to mushies but it will be over before I know it. Until you get there, fear not to waste. You're setting some important ground work. Good Luck!!
SouthernSleever 228 Posted May 1, 2011 You should not blend up solid foods at 6 days out if that is what you are wanting to do.
fern 195 Posted May 2, 2011 Try the Unjury chicken Soup flavour. It's not great on it's own, but added to chicken broth, or with some taco spice, etc. its not bad at all. I found at that stage that I felt weak too. I upped my Protein and within a day or two I was so much better
Dixies Mom 0 Posted May 2, 2011 Thanks for the input! I called my surgeon's office and they said I can blend up Soups and add more broth! I then put it though a strainer to get out any remaining chunks and heat what's left. YUM!! I feel like a new woman! I've also ordered Unjury unflavored Protein so it's on the way to my home! Unjury is out of the chicken Soup flavored until May 16th but I did order sample packs that include the chicken flavor. See my surgeon tomorrow and can't wait to see how he thinks I'm doing! cherrybell 0 Posted May 2, 2011 Don't heat the Unjury above their recommendation because it will curdle and the texture is gawd awful! I find the premixed stuff too sweet as well but I don't mind the nectar powders and you can add as much or as little Water as suits your taste, same with the Protein Shots. Good luck! kpodle 3 Posted May 2, 2011 Try drinking Gatorade G2, it's low sugar but will help you get some electrolytes.
Dixies Mom 0 Posted May 3, 2011 Thanks for the tips! I bought the Unjury sample pack and it comes with a thermometer. I read where it's not supposed to be added to foods more than 130 degrees. I have some G2 so I'll add that into the rotation for liquids!
