Stitches or staples???

Recommended Posts

Everybody just hold on a minute here... If I'm going to Mexico to get banded, that means they're gonna have to give me some stitches and/or staples, right? Well who the heck is gonna remove them? Do I have to fly back to Mexico?

Rumbaut uses dissolving stitches. All you do is take off the bandaids (steri-strips or surgi-strips) a few days later. I think Kuri has you remove your own, and a really, really high percentage of those patients do just fine. :cheeky The others usually ask for help from a nurse or PCP back home. The staples????

I never saw any stitches on mine - just steri-strips. If there were any stitches, they were below the surface and dissolving.

Well, if I have to remove my own, I'll have my creepy friend Mary do it. She loves that kinda thing! But she's really not creepy : )

lol, BigDog!

It's nice to know you've got the tools to get the job done!

My family has always been into that primate 'grooming' thing, so I'm glad I didn't have to have any stitches/staples removed. They might of hurt themselves fighting over who got to do it... lol

Thanks for the offer, Big Dog, but I have a husband with the same tools... let's not give him any ideas! I just had carpal tunnel surgery and cried when they took the stitches out because I'm only 41 years old. It didn't hurt but when they took the bandages off I looked like Frankenstein and it freaked me out. All green & yellow & swollen. They almost had to sedate me. The thought of my skin being sewn together like freaks me out man!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
