10 days post op over the moon

G'Day All

Well it is the 10th day since my surgery and currently loosing at 3 pounds a day average, a Lot more than I expected , doing fine getting in 100 grams Protein per day plus almost 100 oz Water.< /p>

I know that this will slow down but I am under dr's orders due to the major damage my stomach had suffered from previous operations I am on 4 weeks of the clear Fluid diet, I think that I will loose fast for these 4 weeks atleast.

I have been walking between 1 and 2 miles per day, since I got home 1 week ago.

Surgery took 8 hrs to remove the old lap-band and repair all the damage to my stomach area, my Dr was so tired after it and still had another one to do after me, my op was at 11.30 am I was pushed into my room at 11.30 pm and he came by at 1 am to see how I was doing, he expected me to spend easter in hospital due to the long operation but to his and the staffs amazement I was up walking Thursday morning and showered , walked the ward 3 times thursday and again friday morning he came by with a smile saying are you ready to go home I said hell yes , the care there was the best I have ever had in a hospital the staff so friendly and caring.

OK my Dr was Dr Cirangle from LAPSF and was operated on at California pacific medical center in sf.

Ok wednesday was my 1 week post op check up and weigh in and in those 7 days post op I had lost 20 pounds from the weight I was in pre op.

I'm loosing faster than I did with my lapband in 1999 and then I was loosing 2 pounds a day for 8 weeks, I may just loose weight fast I'm not sure but diets never worked like this and this I know was the best choice ever I have made in my life.

Cheers Malcolm

Wow! You are doing great! Sorry you had to be on clear fluids for so long, but it sounds like you adjusted well. It is so motivating for the weight to come off quickly, isn't it? Congratulations!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
