Anyone sleeved at the Cleveland Clinic

Recommended Posts

Hi, just wondering if you have, what was your experience?

I am narrowing down surgeons. I have looked into Dr. Brian Quebbemann, CA. Cleveland Clinic, OH and Dr. Aceves, Mexico.

I am self pay and I live in ohio, just looking for best options and feeling overwhelmed.

Thanks a bunch!

A good friend was sleeved at the Cleveland Clinic but not by that surgeon.

One suggestion is to make sure you understand all of the costs involved in Cleveland. From what I've read the pricing from Dr. Aceves and team is pretty up front. I was sleeved in Ohio ( not at CC ) and quite frankly, I did not understand until I was pretty far in how expensive the program was. I paid over $3k out of pocket with excellent insurance. The surgeon, assistant surgeon, anesthesiologist... they all had additional above and beyond insurance reinbursement charges. So just be certain you are comparing apples to apples since you will have the travel expense involved with Mexico.

Surgeon wise, with all of the reading I have done, I've never heard one bad thing about Aceves. I think some of the decision might need to consider your age and overall health, when adding the travel factor into the equation. I can understand why it's a big decision.

Thank you 1-4-Many, I appreciate your suggestion and will keep that in mind. I am finding out that the price can range from $8,750-30,000 with the many surgeons I have contacted.

I am blessed in the fact that cost does not have to be the determining factor, I just want to know I am going to a skilled surgeon with the peace of mind I am in good hands, whether that is here in the states or in Mexico.

Thanks again and best wishes to you.

Come to Phoenix and go to Dr. Steven Simon at AZ Weightloss Solutions. He does his work at Paradise Valley Hospital, and they are all super!! My surgery with him is May 31st. This doctor is guru material at wls--I would not hesitate in consulting him and his staff. You will get optimum care from him, his staff, and the hospital. Office no. is 480-419-2280.:D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
