NJchick,

Do you wash your salad, even though it says "washed" already? I feel sick now. Oh no!

I lived in washington when the ecoli breakout happened at Jack in the Box. It was so sad to see all those people sick on the news, and to hear about that little girl dying. Ecoli scares me because of seeing that, and they said that Dole has recalled Classic Romaine. But they did not say which number run, or what dates they recalled. I have two bags of it sitting in my fridge right now.

I wonder if the bacteria are from pickers? I've heard that sometimes sanitation leaves a lot to be desired in the fields. It's scary...wasn't there an outbreak from strawberries a year or two ago? Makes me not want to eat any produce I didn't grow myself!!

I think that now that I eat less I will shop at Whole Foods Market where they have organic food. I doubt that even that is completely safe though. Very scary stuff.

If you think about the care and concern most people (don't) show in all other aspects of their lives and work, it makes sense to believe that we should go ahead and wash our produce even if it says it has been washed already, huh? It's sad but true. Better to go through the extra effort and be safer!

I dont like bagged salad its got a funny taste so I always wash it..

Here, here!

I always thought the preservatives or whatever the heck is in that bag smelled and tasted funny. I'm SO glad that I bought a salad spinner and wash it twice to get that smell and taste off before I eat it.

Thankfully though, I don't eat a lot of salad anymore. If I eat a salad, it's because I really WANT one not because I feel I have to eat it to save calories and fill me up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
