1 week (9 days really) post op visit

Recommended Posts

I had my first follow up visit today and I'm only down half a pound from the day of surgery. However, as the doc points out, on the morning of surgery I was stone cold empty - no fluids, gastro tract fairly well scrubbed out - whereas now I have probably a couple of pounds in the plumbing at any given time. So I'm really probably down slightly.

I expected this, as I had lots of steroids at the time of surgery...in fact I was relieved not to be up. But still, looking forward to actually being down.

Next visit May 16th. Betcha I'm down by then!

Virginia...it also looks like you lost 35lbs pre-op!! That is a really significant amount of weight and don't discount that!! :D

Don't forget about the IV fluids! Depending on how long you had an IV you could have gotten a significant amount of fluids that add up, too.

The most important thing is that you are apparently healing well and with your great attitude, by May 9 you are definitely likely to be a "loser". Hang in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
