Hi everyone! I'm just now reseaching the Vertical Sleeve. This is also the first time I've ever joined a Chat Room, so I really am a newbee to everything.

I have been corresponding with Dr. Joya's staff in PV. It sounds good for $10,000.00; flight, hospital room for 2 nights, 5 star hotel room for three nights, all medical expenses included, taxis to and from the airport, hotel and hospital.

Who has had their surgery done in Mexico? Who has used Dr. Joya for their surgeon? Is this a good price for all included? What other doctors would you recommend from Mexico?

My husband will be home from Afghanistan on July 21 and if I have this surgery sometime in the first couple of weeks of May, will I be up to travelling and sitting down to a meal with him?

Gosh, I just have so many questions. I sure hope that you can help.

Tons of people on this board have had their surgery in Mexico, myself included. I went to Monterrey for my lap band 5 1/2 years ago and now 2 weeks ago went to Tijuana to get that removed and have the sleeve performed by Dr. Jose Rodriguez (Dr. Rod). I haven't heard much about Dr. Joya on this board, mostly on Obesity Help, but he does seem to have a good reputation.

To be honest with you, if you're willing to spend that much money to have your surgery in Mexico, I'd check out Dr. Aceves. He's seen by many as the gold standard and has a phenomenal reputation. I think he's around $9000. You'd be responsible for your own airfare, however I highly doubt that would cost $1,000 to make up the difference between the $10,000 you'd pay for Dr. Joya. Dr. Aceves practices out of Mexicali which is a very nice city and also safe. You would fly into San Diego and transporation to/from the airport is provided.

If you have surgery in May, you'll definitely be able to enjoy a meal with your husband. Your portions will just be much smaller!

I used Dr. Aceves in Mexicali Mexico. I cannot comment on others as he is the only one I have experience with. Have never had a better surgery/hospital experience anywhere. Just search his name on these boards. You will see what I mean. There are many, many Mexican Dr's though, so just do some heavy research before making this decision. Good luck to you!smile.gif

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
