Thats right folks. I who once had an (unmedicated) fasting blood sugar of 345 and with metformin and insulin got it down to 120 prior to surgery now have a fasting glucose (unmedicated) of 95!!!

NINETY FREAKING FIVE PEOPLE!!!! In 3 months I will repeat the A1C test and if it is below a 6 I will be considered to no longer have type 2 Diabetes.

THANK YOU SLEEVE!!!

THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

I look forward to that day too!! I take 1,000mg of Metformin and my blood sugars are in the 120's with the medication. I have lost 60lbs pre-op which has helped bring them down from close to the 200's. I know I will be off mine soon too!

I can't stop smiling for you!!

Congrats!

Woo-hoo! A patient ambassador who came to see me after surgery had the same experience; that's amazing!

I'm off blood pressure meds since I left the hospital, and while it's a much smaller victory it feels fabulous.

Congratulations....that is amazing!! Being diagnosed with diabetes was 99% of the reason that I had surgery too and I am thrilled with your results. I have not checked my fasting blood sugar since the surgery as I was afraid it was too early to see a result and I am not on insulin. I will be checking it tomorrow morning though since you have had such rapid results! Congratulations again!! :D

That is my favorite outcome by far of this surgery and lifestyle change! I've been off all my diabetic meds (Lantus, Symlin, Metformin and glimepiride) since two days prior to surgery. Now 4 months out - my fasting never gets above 125 and is usually around 108... I sleep through the night... I don't have to pee all the time... I don't have needle marks or huge bruises on my belly... It's truly awesome!

Don't get me wrong... the weight loss has made me really really happy - but I did this surgery to help better manage my diabetes. I would love to be considered in remission for life!

The sleeve rocks! Congrats to all of us that have taken this important step towards a healthier life!

For some reason, this series of posts made me tear up a little. I don't have diabetes myself but I have known many folks with it, including a few older people who haven't taken care of it and have died as a result. I'm so very happy for all of you (and for all of those who love you) who are cured because you got sleeved! May you live long, healthy, happy lives!!

Isn't that the greatest thing ever???!!! Same thing here...It was my main motivator for having surgery, although I must admit I didn't think it would help me b/c my fastings sucked w/out insulin. I was off insulin 3 days after surgery. My fastings are 89-95 every day!!!! So, this surgery is already a success in my book!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
