I just got a call from my surgeons office and the nurse told me that I have to start an all liquid diet next Wednesday so that I can lose 10 pounds before surgery. If I don't lose the 10 pounds they will cancel my surgery.

Now for my question: The nurse said that I can go with Optifast or Medifast and I'm not sure which one to choose. Any suggestions? I have to buy them today to make sure that I have them.

Thanks.

Erin

If you truly have to do an all liquid diet, you have more options than just Optifast or Medifast which can be very expensive. There are lots of Meal Replacement Protein powders that you can pick up at your local grocery store or even GNC which would accomplish the same thing.

Did they say why you had to do a liquid diet to lost the weight? I was on a high Protein, low carb diet for 5 days before my surgery and lost 8 pounds easy and my starting weight was 245.

Thanks for your response.

They told me that I have to do the pre-op diet to lose the 10 pounds because I haven't been able to do it on my own.

The nurse specifically told me that I have to do Optifast or medifast and I guess the surgeon even wrote a prescription for it. Not sure what their reason is for those specific brands or why it has to be all liquid. She initially said that I had to be on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks, but then changed it to just liquids.

I'll check out GNC and see what options they have.
