Thanks for the reminder of the lip balm! VERY important product.

I went to my surgeon's office's sleeve support group meeting tonight and it was so great. Everybody is so happy with their sleeve, even those who are not very far out and still having pain and sick of thin liquids. I met a lady there who is having her surgery the day after me, so we are going to look for each other in the hall when we're doing our walking.

I haven't been doing any exercise because of my bad knee arthritis, but I did get cortisone injections last week so I should be good to go by surgery day. With the weight I've lost since I began my three month prep (about 20 pounds) I am already feeling lighter and walking easier.

WE ARE ALL SO CLOSE!!! We may all be miserable a week from today, but let's just look forward to the week or so after that and how much better we will start to feel.

I get my sleeve on May 2nd too! I started my preop diet last week and have lost 7.5 lbs. I am excited to get the journey started. I'm not nervous about the surgery or the recovery at all, but the magnitude of the life change that is coming and wiether or not I will be successful is a little daunting. I just don't want to fail this too.

I am taking pajama bottoms, my kindle and some ear plugs with me for my one night stay.

Congrats on our date I CAN!! I have the same fear of failing as you do but I think together we can help each other get through this!

The pain from the actual surgery is not bad. The pain from the GAS that needs to get out of your system from the blowing up of your abdomen to the anesthesia gas is the WORST. I am one week post op and the gas pains still hurt. Do a lot of walking. Even though it hurts, the movement will work out the gas quicker.

Thanks for this information! It gives me some sort of understanding of what to expect! I will try to get as much walking done as I can.

i weighed 280lbs at my highest. when i started the bariatric program, i knew they would make me lose weight, so i started losing. i was at 262 when i had my first surgeon consult and he told me i had to lose 20 lbs. I knew i could do it, but i never dreamed I would lose 60!!

The pre-op diet is low carb, low fat, high Protein. It is not that bad becuase it is very well balanced. I like it.

It is something that makes it easy to stay on. Now, I have strayed a time or two, but mostly, I stay on track!

Thanks for the well wishes.!! When I do have my surgery, I will have a very short goal of 55 to 60 lbs. That will make me VERY HAPPY!!

Best of luck!

You can do it! :)

Hello All! My surgery date is May 2nd too! This preop diet has been a huge challenge for me and I feel much better knowing that I'm not the only one that have cheated. I was told to do a two week liquid diet, and needless to say, I haven't stuck to it. I do pretty well all day until around 5pm.... then i feel the need to have the extra. I hope i can take control of this situation because my time is very near... I was wondering why some ppl don't have to do the two weeks?

Hi dnicewife! I am glad so many of us are at the same stage. I hear that some people don't have to do the two weeks diet simply because their surgeons don't require it.

Hi Vicky! I have also wondered about the catheter... never had one on either. A friend of mine said hers didn't bother her but I have heard other stories about discomfort with catheters.

Hi Kristy Welcome!! Good luck to you too! :)

I had to be catherized at my OB-GYN office when they were testing to see if my bladder was emptying all the way. (Oh, the joys of having had children and reaching pre-menopausal age!) So I was awake when they put it in and took it out and, although I could feel it "coming and going" it was really more of just an uncomfortable sensation.

If you know they are coming to take it out, USE YOUR PUMP! Then you won't care one way or the other. :D

Was there discomfort when you used the bathroom?

I was informed that I, too, have to have one. BOO HOO! But, as soon as the surgery is over and I get up to walk, they take it out!

I haven't really been told that I am having one. I just assumed everyone gets one. Isn't that the case?

Good luck with yours Kelly! :)

I think I have heard that some have and some havn't but from what I read- I think the ones that say they didnt have one- actually did they just took it out before they came to- my last surgery they waited till I was fully awake when they took it out- it is a little uncomfy- but no worse than the other pain you will experience- lol-they pull it out rather quickly so - it could kind of sting the first time you go pee- but Ive had them take it out and I was just fine-

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
