4 days out and WEIRD PAIN

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days out from surgery and have this weird pain...like I have an air bubble stuck, it's essensially right between my boobs where that tiny little incision is...but more in my stomach/throat but not...does that make any sense at all? Is this just me healing (noticing other minor pains since the major ones are more tolerable now) or should I be calling my Dr.?

Yes! Call your doctor and be persistent. It may be nothing, but you do not want to take the chance. Push for an xray so they can see what's going on in there. Otherwise, make sure you take some gas-x in case it is a gas pain. ALso, are you taking a PPI? I have found that stomach acid can feel weird in all sorts of ways. Get your daily nexium/prilosec in, take some gas medication, and use a heating pad to help with the pain.

But, also call our doctor. You don't want to mess around - especially in the begining.

Take care,

Lara

It was gas...1 gas ex strip and a couple gulps and 1 giant belch later...all better. blink.gif

I couldn't tolerate pepcid in the hospital given via IV within minutes it was like my saliva glands were trying to drown me (literally shooting streams of saliva out!) and I would get incredibly nauseous...so not eager to try any other acid reducers.

I had that feeling a couple times and my doctor said it could be one of a couple things: 1. gas, 2. I'm full, or 3. acid reflux. I had it last thursday and it lasted a couple hours. I didn't have my gas-x strips with me and it went away after a while.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
