Home from vacation and terrified to weigh

Recommended Posts

Well just got home from trip to the beach... We cooked lots of great meals and I ate fine with those. But here's the thing... I snacked way too much ..and not healthy stuff. I felt like I didn't even have surgery! I'm still in the losing phase so I feel like I should have more will power !!!What is wrong with me? I didn't even walk... Just sat on the beach in the sun all day.Does anyone out there have any words of encouragement to help me get back on track???? And I have to muster up the courage to weigh tomorrow. Ohhh but I did walk for 1 hour after we got home... So I guess that's a start.

I'm betting with all the good food and Snacks you ate, it didn't even come near what you used to eat during a day at the beach. Don't castigate yourself, just take a deep breath and start using your handy dandy tool, that is your sleeve, to continue on your journey. Beating ourselves up doesn't help anything...it just beats up our self esteem. We are better now than we have ever been!! YEAH US!!

You're on vacation, treat yourself! As long as you get right back to your normal ways of eating and exercising when you return, it's all good. I went to Hawaii in February and we ate chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream from Haagen Dazs every day. I also ate a ton of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts and fancy truffles (put away 2 boxes in one week), and we had booze every day, too - and I only like sweet drinks which are usually loaded with calories. Oh, and I went through half a dozen cans of vanilla Coke, too - we don't have it here and I couldn't find a diet version, so I just had the regular kind. So altogether, I probably ate double my normal amount of calories. BUT we made a point of walking everywhere possible, at least 5 miles a day - and one day we walked 14 miles! When I got back, I was 2 lbs heavier the next day; the day after, I was already down 1 pound; and within a week of returning, I was back to my pre-vacation weight. I just stopped eating all the junk and the weight came off immediately. Moral of the story: 1) if you are going to eat a ton of crap, make a point to be very active 2) get right back into it and you'll drop the pounds in a few days!

I was 'naughty' when I went on hol to Egypt in February and I stayed the same!! biggrin.gif I went to the same hotel pre WLS and gained 4lbs when I was trying to be good!! Be brave and weigh... it may not be as bad as you think.

Don't weigh yourself. Give yourself a week of following your plan to the "T" and then weigh yourself. No sense making yourself upset. So you snacked?? Forgive yourself and move on. Once you get a good few days of being on your plan.. you will feel great!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
