Hair loss almost 6 months out

Recommended Posts

I am almost 6 months out. For the last 2 months, I have been losing so much hair. I have to admit, I have totally flaked out on drinking my Protein and taking my Vitamins, so I know that's real bad. I have restarted the protein and vitamins. But... when will my hair start to grow back?

Please give me some hope.

I have not been sleeved yet but from what I have learned is you MUST get your Protein in. That is most likely why your hair is falling out. Lack of protein will make your hair thin or brittle, it will make you feel tired and fatigued and if let go will cause medical issues. I would start taking protein and getting more B12. That should stop the loss and it will get better the healthier your body gets. I hope it gets better for you!

I'm almost 6 months out too and am losing a lot of hair. My hair was thin to begin with and I think it looks so bad. Now my eyelashes are also failing out. I'm going to be finally thin but hairless. I hope some people will give us some advice.

I think the Hair loss cannot be prevented, even with all the Protein, Biotin, and Vitamins we may take. The good news is, it will stop in a few months and immediately start to grow back. Mine fell out for about 4 months. It is scary, I know. But it's pretty inevitable so don't think you've done anything wrong. And remember that it will stop. Small price to pay for our health in the long run. Soon you will be over the trauma of it all and dealing with short stragly sections of hair that won't lay down when it grows back! And your new problem will be that your size 12's are getting too big. It only gets better and better!

How much Biotin do folks take? I think the extra falling out of hair has stopped finally at almost 11 months. Thinking biotin might help stimulate new growth. I have thin hair naturally and hair looks awful but sure don't want to wear a wig in san Antonio in the summer.

I started losing mine @ 2 months out, I stopped losing hair

after 6 months out and at 12 months out it is thickening back up and starting to look healthier. It is a small trade off to be thin :)

Take your vitamins, hit your protein counts. You can make it!!! You probably have 2 more months of shedding then it'll be over. I never stopped coloring my hair but I did cut it shorter to make

it look healthier.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
