3 week post-surgery appointment today and one with the endocrinologist in another town. Had Breakfast and wife forgot my Protein Shake for my lunch so after the 2 appointments I was getting a bit hungry. So I graduated to soft foods. Went to Bob Evans and had a grilled salmon fillet (very, very tender) and some of the steamed veggies. Only ate about 1/4th of the fillet, but I ate too fast. I was miserable for hours. I NEED TO SLOW DOWN!!!!

Being a male, I liken the analogy that pre-VSG the stomach is a pick-up truck with a 6 foot bed. Throw anything in there and it fits. Post-op VSG, the sleeve is sleek and small like a Ferrari. Being like an Italian sports car, you can barely fit a brief case behind the seats -- and it's temperamental and quirky. Likely to act up .. I don't know if an year from now or more, the sleeve will be stable. But the sleeve is like that, a bit unpredictable how it is going to react to each meal. The meal wasn't eaten too fast. No way. Cottage is not a hard food requiring a lot of chewing. 2 weeks post-op is fairly new sleeve. It hasn't even healed fully yet. Expect the sleeve to do much more of these before it starts accepting most everything you are supposed to put into it. Even if it is on the approve list, there is no guarantee that any sleeve will accept the approved food. A lot of it is individual tolerance too. Some sleeve appear to be made of stainless steel and can tolerate anything so the owners have reported. Others, like mine, act up whenever just like yours. I am 2.5 month out.

I'm struggling with this too!

I'm finding that all the advice to not eat while doing anything else just doesn't work for me and back fires most of the time.

If I eat while reading or something I seem to do it much slower and have less issues.

my nutritionist has told me that there will be things that i will eat, and that will not agree with me. and that i should wait, and come back to it in a week or two. they want me to try new things, but just not all at one time lol. so i kinda pace myself and try something new every couple of days or so. i still find that anything with a skin doesn't work very well. i'm even having trouble with some fruits upsetting my tummy. especially the high acid fruits like pineapple. so i still keep things pretty light. i'm very cautious. i hate the feeling of being sick and how miserable you are after doing so. they also said that most people have a hard time with chicken. but i dont seem to. and its very high in Protein so it seems to be my go to food when i am trying to fit all my protein in for the day. i have found packaged lunch meat, that is chicken, that works great as an on the go snack.< /p>

I was sleeved 2 days after you, on the 14th, and I can hardly get down 1/4 cup of mushy food... a couple of days ago I tried 2 tsp of mushy quiche, and it felt like it got stuck...then I got hiccups.... so i made the HUGE mistake of taking a couple of tiny sips of Water and ended up throwing up.... After reading what everyone has written I realize I ate too fast, didn't chew enough and that my body just wasn't ready.....

Today I ate less than 1/4 cup of super soft scrambled eggs (YAY --- MY FIRST NON Soup MEAL--- that actually stayed down).... and i took tiny bites with my tiny fork and chewed it really well, and didn't drink anything... and i managed to keep it down.... I did feel like an elephant was sitting on my chest but about 10 minutes later I burped a few times and I felt so much better!!

I am almost three months out and I still have problems with eating too fast. I get the hiccups often and I have thrown up several times. It takes a long time to unlearn the bad habit of wolfing down my food.< /p>

I LOVE this analogy as it is as close as I will ever get to a Ferrari!! I am going to remember this one. I have been much more cautious with my food since the cottage cheese episode and everything is staying down!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
