I don't drink regular milk and can only tolerate chocolate milk. Is this safe to have on the full liquid portion of the diet (I start tomorrow). Please let me know your thoughts. I'm already aware of the sugar/carbs concern so just want to know if it's well tolerated. Thank you!

I don't think I would have been able to tolerate it on full liquids. I can't tolerate it now, but I'm pretty sure my body would have been pissed off if I dumped that in my stomach.

I was only allowed 4oz of pure fruit juice during that time because of the sugar irritating the bowels, and the extra calories/carbs.

Like Tiff said, the sugar may upset you more than you want. If I drank more than the allowed 4 oz of juice I was running to the bathroom the first few days. But everyone is different. I would be more concerned with the extra cals so maybe the Silk or low-carb version would be better than plain chocolate milk. I still have a prob with lactose products so I am gonna wait a few more weeks before trying again. But my doc did tell me skim milk only was preferred.

There is also a product called Hoods Low Carb Countdown that has a Sugar Free Chocolate milk. Something like that you could try. You may tolerate, you may not. Everyone is different. I think Kroger carries it in the dairy section.

I actually found I was better with milk then juice or Water. I still have a problem with water. I also hate the taste of milk so I have been putting 1 little squeeze of hershey fat/sugar free Syrup in and it goes down well

I tried it after my 1 week check up and only drank 1/2 a carton. We had to stop on the way home and I lost everything I had in my stomach with diarrhea ....3 weeks out and haven't vomited yet....close just once.

I would go with a chocolate Carnation Instant Breakfast instead, it's a better Protein source in my NUT's opinion.

I'd always double check with my own NUT or Doc.

I just found Re-fuel by dairygold, it has 20 g's of Protein, I've only seen it in chocolate, I cant drink a whole one but I use it as part of my meals thru out the day, I still cant eat more than a few tablespoons at a time, (I'm 6 weeks out) and I find it easier to drink something, so it being higher in calories doesn't bother me,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
