Wish Center or Mexico

Recommended Posts

I am going to be self pay so cost is an issue.

Wish Center in the States (Texas is closest to me) or travel to Mexico.

The cost for Rumbeault is similar to the Wish Center but WC is in the states and therefore would somehow magically make it easier on fills down the road as the local doctors charge a much lower price if you were banded in the states.

So.....opinions on the Wish Center? It seems Rumbeault is nearly impeccable in his reputation so I have no worries there.

I am also debating Band or RNY still as well.

I was banded with Dr Rumbaut on June 8th. I was very impressed with him and his staff. They are all very helpful and I couldn't have asked for anything else. So much different then in the states. My sister is a RN and went with me. She also was very impressed with everything. They let her observe another surgery and also showed her how to do my fills. I can't say enough good things about Dr Rumbaut.I've had no problems and anytime I have a question I just e-mail them and they always get back with me the same day. Good luck with your decision!

I have no problem with Rumbeault's reputation...it appears to be impeccable. I am more after feedback on WC. I still for some reason think staying in country would be somehow a better idea in case anything goes wrong or to avoid issues with aftercare.

I used dr j rodriguez (joseband.com) and was very happy. I have had some complications which are normal and just my body but I am doing better. The doctor has been super easy to reach and he calls to check on me. He alos only costs 7300. think about it. It is in Acuna, across from del rio.

If one has to go to Mexico, then I wouldn't recommend anybody BUT Rumbaut. He is hands down one of the most impressive LapBand docs in the world.

Having said that, there are understandable concerns with going out of the country for any surgery, especially one that requires so much hands on after-care. It goes without saying that most knowledgeable US band doctors realize Rumbaut's surgical skill level and have no fears about the technical challenges of treating his patients. However, there are always those US doctors (and face it, you might need these docs for fils and aftercare) who are going to be more comfortable with patients from other US doctors, no matter what.

So basically if I were you I would closely examine the Wish Center's aftercare options, your comfort level with their customer service and skill, and your own gut instincts.

If you have to go internationally, Rumbaut wins hand down. But if the same money can be used to allow you to stay in this country for surgery, then I certainly understand.

Good Luck!

I had my surgery at the Wish Center in San Antonio. I am very happy with the pre & post care. Dr. Rincon was my surgeon and I am confident in his abilities.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
