IF YOU WORK OUT ALOT, SOMETIMES YOU CAN EAT TO LESS AND AFFECT YOUR WEIGHT LOSS

Recommended Posts

"Starvation mode" has been debunked 100 times over. There are some factors that contribute to weight loss stalls when working out/exercising, but the actual "starvation mode" has been disputed by medical professionals and exercise physiologists.

If that were true, people wouldn't be able to starve to death, would they? And unfortunately they do. I agree with Tiffykins about weight loss stalls, though, as the body does try to adjust to increased workload and decreased calories.

NO, only people who are literally starving to death have to worry about so-called starvation mode, when their body's already burned off their fat reserves and starts metabolizing their muscle for Protein and energy.

For anybody with any amount of fat to burn, "starvation mode" is a myth....you WANT your body burning your fat, and it will, and as long as you're getting in your Protein, Water, and supplements, there's nothing to worry about.

I cannot comment on the legitimacy of the "starvation mode" theory; however, what I can say for certain is that I have been stalled for two weeks and I have been burning many more calories than I'm consuming. I'm getting in about 700 calories on a good day and burning upwards of 1000 calories/day (biking, walking, elliptical, treadmill).

I figure that just seven weeks ago my body went through hell with surgery (although I had a smooth recovery and felt back to normal by day three post-op), so I'm trying to be patient and am going to keep pushing forward. I think eventually these things balance themselves out. So I might not be losing weight now, but I think my body needs time to figure things out and catch up. I've been overweight my entire life; I can't expect my body to adjust to all these changes as quickly as my mind has.

Mariah ,

You are exactly right. The body needs time to adjust to it's new weight before it wants to give anymore up. I've lost 5 lbs overnight after a stall, without doing anything differently, just because it's time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
