7 Week Weight Loss Average?

Recommended Posts

I know this will have a large range, but I'm trying to get an idea of how much weight people lost about 7 weeks post op. I just completed my first week and I'm down about 9 pounds (yay!) I am a bridesmaid in a wedding on June 4th and I need to buy my dress... and I don't know what size I'll be!! On average, what was your weight loss? Did your feet change at all as you lost fluids and bloat? Below are my specs just in case anyone is similar in body to me:

Start Weight: 222

PreOp Weigh: 213

Height: 5'4"

Thanks for all your advice in advance!

I had lost about 30 pounds at seven weeks. You probably should plan to have your dress altered just in case. Weight loss varies so much from person to person. My feet have gone down half of a size. Good luck with the wedding!

I just passed the 7 week mark. I am much heavier than you and a little taller, but i will share my info so you can compare with a variety. I think it's going to be hard predicting the size you will be in 6 more weeks, but good luck! I agree with Becca, be prepared for some alterations just in case.

My PreOp weight was 353

I am 5'6"

At 7 weeks I have lost 35 pounds.

My surgery weight was 232 and I am 5'8". I lost 26.5 lbs in 7 weeks. If you compare starting BMI's with yours you will probably get a better estimate of how much weight you will lose. Mine was 35.

I am 2 months out from surgery today. I have lost 30 pounds post surgery, 13 pounds on the pre surgery diet - for a 43 pound loss total. I am 5'4" and my starting weight was 253.

My surgery weight was 236, I will be 7 weeks next Wednesday and will down about 32 pounds. I lost about 10 preop. I am 5'3. Seems like a "safe" average is about 30-40 pounds 7-8 weeks out from surgery, but we all lose differently so it's hard to really know. I have not notice any difference in my feet, but I have small feet and have not ever noticed much difference with them even at my heaviest. Since you have another month to go I would be pretty such you will lose at least 15-20 more pounds if you are following the diet and adding some exercise.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
