Possible Problem ~ Question

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was sleeved on 4/14 so I am just over a week out. I had my one week appointment yesterday and every thing was fine. I feel fine, no pain, no problems. I get my fluids down and my Protein in. Sorry if this is TMI, but I just went to the bathroom. I had diarrhea. It was dark pink/red and turneed the toilet Water pink. If it happens again, I will definitely call the surgeon. My question is, I just had Torani sugar free Rasberry Syrup for the first time today mixed in some runny cream of rice. I have never had it before. Could that be the source of the color? Just wanted to ask and see if anyone else uses Torani and has had this happen to them. Thanks!

I would think what you ate would definitely have a bearing on whatever comes out so to speak.

All of Dr. Aceves patients have to drink apple juice dyed blue for one of the leak tests.

Everyone is quite shocked when they go potty and it's Peacock Blue.

If the color was blood, it's going to be black if it's from your stomach or bowel. Bright red blood would be from much lower down the digestive tract, in the rectum or anus. Sorry I can't tell you if Torani Raspberry tints poop pink--I can say that the Black Cherry doesn't tint anything in the bowl pink.

I would bet on the Syrup but if it happens again go to the doc.

Years ago we had some bright red pain killer syrup, I think it was codeine and something else. Well I ended up like you with bright red stools and panicked before I figured out the source. I stopped taking that crap right away and took the rest to a disposal site to be destroyed. Sure scared me for a few minutes.

For the first week I had a lot of red liquid Jello and I had the exact same situation in the bathroom! It happened more than once. Not sure how much of the Syrup you used but I can tell you that it was a normal thing for me that first week. It's completely gone now and I'm not drinking the jello anymore.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
