Hi All,

I will be 3 months post op on Monday and the Hair loss has really kicked in. I am taking all of my Vitamins, which I buy from my surgeon and am taking additional Biotin. I am also getting in at a minimum of 60g of Protein a day. Is there anything else I can do to stop the hair loss? Or is this just something that has to run its course? How long does it usually last?

Thanks again, Cheri

I have a question to add to yours ;) Are we talking hair thinning, or big clumps, or looking like a chemo patient??? I am good either way... Not really too emotionally attatched to my hair, just curious :)

Ashley- It is more hair thining all over. When I brush or wash my hair it comes out in my hands and in my brush. I would estimate 10-20 strands at a time. I just want to know if there is anything else I should be doing as a preventative.

I am doing all the right things too and my hair is falling out like crazy too. I am almost 4 months out. I read online that Hair loss can be a result of losing more than 15 pounds a month (which I sure did the first 3 months). My doctor said that the Biotin doesn't prevent hair loss. Luckily I have a lot of hair so it's not noticeable so I am waiting with my fingers crossed.

My sister-in-law had RNY and her hair didn't stop falling out until a year post-op. I am hoping my hair loss doesn't last that long.

Hope you hair loss doesn't last too long as well....

From what I understand there isn't much you can do to prevent it (other than the usual...vitamins, Protein, Biotin, Water, etc.) I believe it just has to run it's course. Mine started just about 4 months post-op and I'm 6 months today, so I've had 2 good months of solid shedding. It is frustrating for sure. I might have to cut my hair short for the summer. I grew it long for surgery knowing that I would probably lose a LOT of volume. I think you just have to soldier on and hope for the best. Sorry. Wish I had better news.

They call this shedding, just like your pet would shed. So random strands come out when you wash or brush it, not in clumps. Mine started about 5 months post-op and lasted about 5 months. I would pull a hand full out of my brush after each Shampoo. I tried all the remedies (Biotin, special serum, shampoos, more protein) and nothing stopped it but good old Father Time. Just hold on for the ride and pray for it to end.

Unfortunately, all my new growth has been gray, but at least I can be happy I've got something for Miss Clairol to hold on to - ha!

Hear Hear Sleeve Sista! Mine new ones are a pretty fair mix of gray and brown...but as long as they stay attached then I'm happy!

Right, Biotin doesn't prevent hair loss, it just helps the new growth come in.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
