Strwberriekissesrbetter 2 Posted April 22, 2011 So Here I am 6months post op and I go for my monthly refill of prilosec and the pharmacey says it is 2 early 2 fill my perscription again, which puts me in a panic cause no prilosec I dont get 2 eat, and the other is I have 2 deal with my surgeon. he has my perscription saying only need the prilosec 2 times a day at Breakfast and before bed which isnt true, have told hime several times take it 3-5 times a day depending on the severity of the heartburn and still he fails to switch it! well 2day he calls me and says I shouldnt be taking more than 2 capsules a day and if I have heartburn in between 2 take tums or malox which neither will work for me for 2 reasons 1, being the prilosec isnt strong enough 2times a day but OTC heartburn meds are gonna help and 2. I cant swallow anything gritty my sleeve has a terrible reaction to ( that is one reason I havent began my vitamins) and stuff that is a thick substance to drink gags me too. So here I am stuck. My surgeon says deal with it and my PCP went ahead and filled my prilosec for 300 capsules a month! The question isnt it better to take the needed amount of acid reflux meds 2 prevent damage or listen 2 the surgeon and end up sick , not eating and being told I am anorexic again not because I want 2 be but because I cant eat from the acid reflux? also there is no severe damage prilosec can do 2 you? right? I'm sorry you are having these problems. I don't know what to suggest, but maybe see if your PCP can give you the correct prescription? Also, I'm curious- were you diagnosed with any specific grade of Esophogitus before your surgery? Like maybe A, B, C, or D? I was just told I can't have my surgery until its completely healed which seems ridiculous to me. I don't know that it will ever be completely healed, it's been a problem for so many years. I Never ha any stomach or esophagus Issues. I never really had heartburn until after surgery. But even with some of the issues I have had and feel like my body is fighting me the whole way I wouldnt trade it for the world . I am more closer to goal of normal weight than I have been in a long time. I weigh as much now as I did in 8th grade and feel GREAT! I wish you the BEST luck .. AutumnLily 77 Posted April 22, 2011 This information I found in Prilosec side effects online. High doses and long-term use (1 year or longer) may increase the risk of osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine. Therefore, it is important to use the lowest doses and shortest duration of treatment necessary for the condition being treated. What is the dose your doctor prescibed? Maybe you need to try a different brand of PPI as it seems Prilosec is not covering you as well as it should.
