anesthesia

How many days post op did it take everyone to feel like the anesthesia was worked out of their body? I got pain and nausea and I am two days post op.

I think everyone is different, but I only had nausea for a few hours after surgery and was given some great anti-nausea medication. Are you sure you're not feeling the affects of the gas? That can last several days and definitely cause pain; especially under your breastbone and in your shoulders.

Pretty quick, like day 3 or 4 for me. Hot shower beating on my back...I could actually feel air bubbles move...ahhhh. Got a good partner, friend, or kid to give you a back rub? That helps too. Heating pad on your back...not your belly, can help too. Feel better QUICK!

If you're talking about the fuzziness in my brain after surgery, it took about 4 days for that to go away entirely. If you're talking about the horrible squishy noises that my insides make when I turn over in bed, or the bubbly, "percolation" noises that occur when I change position, I'm still dealing with those, and those HURT! I read elsewhere on this forum that some of us are particularly sensitive in odd ways to the remaining CO2 in our bodies. I think my body must like the stuff, since it seems to be hanging on to it. Today is day 7 for me, and this is the first morning that I got out of bed without a corresponding instant pain in my shoulders or neck--a pain I get whenever I change position that goes away after a few minutes. I can hear and feel the gas percolating through my tissues (eww!), and I'm really ready for it to come out. Now that I really am feeling much better overall, I'm going to focus on getting as much walking in as I can to see if that doesn't help my body eliminate the excess gas. It's not intestinal gas, it's gas that's just trapped in the tissues of my abdominal cavity from the surgery.

This too will "pass," if you'll pardon the pun, although not in the traditional way, and it will probably take longer. Hang in there! I'm with you!

Meg

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
