Ok, I am pretty straightforward, matter of fact and blunt. THIS SUCKS! I am 9 days out and this narrowing in my sleeve has me screwed, to put it bluntly! Newest revelation...and protien shake, smmothie or even unflavored added to otherwise tolerated liquids gives me diarrhea! What do I do. After 2-3 swallows the gurgling and churning and grumbling begin, within 20 minutes a run to the 'powder room' And I NEED protein! I am getting married! I WILL HAVE LONG RED hair FOR MY FREAKIN ST PATRICKS DAY WEDDING!!!! What do I do?? On a second, probably more important note...but bald at my wedding seems kinda worse in my twisted brain....I'm getting dehydrated! What can I do...what if I cannot tolerate Protein? ?? How will I survive? I'm a nurse but can you get supplements, like protien, by injection or anything??? I am in a bit of a panic, but don't want to be a crazy person. I just want to get through this like all of you have! The FIRST person who says or even suggests this is the EASY way out to lose weight will likely get a punch in the puss!!!! Heelllpp!

At 9 days out of surgery all you need to focus on is to stay hydrated. Relax about the Protein until you can add mushie food later on. If your body reacts to Protein Drinks, then stay away from them for a while. The most important thing is to get drinks and energy in to stay hydrated, Water, juice, Soups etc. Best wishes and good luck!

The gurgling, etc will pass too. In another couple of weeks it will just go away. I agree with the above poster, just work on fluids at this point. When you can tolerate it greek yogurt has been my saving grace as far as getting enough Protein in . It has like 15 gms, depending on the variety. Try it, it may be easier on your system than the Protein Shakes. As to the hair, most people only have a little thinning. It won't all fall out. This is not chemo. Your wedding is almost a year from now. Don't worry about it yet. One thing at a time.

I have been thinking about you and hoping they figure this problem out for you so that you can move forward and start healing. Things WILL get better in time it just is extra hard for you with the complications you have had. I think waiting to see if there is a leak has to be terribly hard on you so here is a hug to you from me! Keep us posted- I check all the time to see if you have posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
