I was looking into Biotin and I'm going to pass on it. From what I can tell having a deficiency in Biotin can cause hairloss, but there's no evidence that taking more will PREVENT hair loss. And you can get biotin in almost any B-complex Vitamin.

It's up to you, but there's no rule about it that I know of.

I take Biotin 5000 From GNC I take one a day and put it in my yogurt or my broth etc...since it's a capsule :) I have two friends who had the sleeve and started on the Biotin5000 and had no hair loss at all.. that's why I chose to use the Biotin :)

It's your own personal preference.. :)

I take Biotin 2500 mcg daily or as often as I remember. I've been taking it for 4 months now. I get mine from Rite Aid.

It doesn't prevent hair loss at all. The only thing it does is help with the regrowth of hair. My hair is growing super fast (always has grown fast before but now... wow!!) I have millions of little sprouting hairs all over my head too, its pretty funny. Not only that, but my finger and toe nails are growing really fast and very strong now too. So, it helps with more than just the hair. I can shape and cut my own finger nails now and put a clear laquer over them and it looks lovely. I don't even need to get my nails done ever. So there's more plusses to taking it than just the hair. :)

Good luck!!

I am having major Hair loss but luckily I have a lot to begin with but it still is scary. I read that losing more than 15 pounds a month could be the factor. It has to be in my case because I am getting my Protein in no problem. I was thinking of starting the Biotin as well but my surgeon says there is no hard evidence it works. I think I am going to give it a try anyway. Can't hurt.

Great to know LMD and NJMOMof2.... i have really long hair, down to my butt, that is naturally very thick, but ironically, I had it majorly thinned out the last time i got it cut in early March.... opps... So now I worried about losing too much... I normally shed a LOT and I regrow fast, but I'm not sure if that will keep up since my body is stressed from the surgery... I figure any boost to regrowth that I can get will be awesome! So thanks for the advice!!!!! And LMD great to know about the nail... mine have always been so weak that I keep them super short, maybe with the Biotin they will thicken !!biggrin.gif

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
