Just wanna feel normal again

Recommended Posts

I can't stand this feeling. My sense of smell has kicked up a few knotches and mostly everything makes me sick. I know I'm only two weeks out, but when will this madness end. I just wanna feel normal again.

I know how you feel. I am only 1 1/2 weeks out as well and am finding it very hard to get my food and Protein in even though I am on mushies. I know exactly what you mean about smells. I cannot wait to get to regular food. I did try oatmeal today and it seems to be doing OK.

It took me about 4-5 weeks before I felt truly like myself post-op. There is the recovery, learning how to eat, focusing on protein/water, and the emotions that you go through. Just hang in there, it gets better. And, feel free to come out here to vent, Celebrate, cry ... whatever you need, we will be here for you.

I am 7 weeks post-op and I am still waiting to feel normal again! Although, my gallbladder is acting up and must come out. My sense of smell is still elevated, but it is getting better. I take each day one at a time and try to eat as much Protein and drink as much Water as possible.

Hello everyone, I had my surgery one week ago today. I have been sick every since. I started running a low to med grade temp while I was there last Friday, and as of today I am still running it. I have very bad dry mouth, and also diarrhea. Please someone help me and let me know if this is or has happened to anyone else. I thought I was having a reaction to the medicine that was sent home with me, because what I'm having is the side effects on the antacid. I stopped taking them two days ago and no changes. Please help

Iam 5 weeks out from my surgery. I also went through the heightened sense of smell after surgery. It drove me CRAZY!! I hated it! I guess it took about 3 weeks for my nose to get back to normal. So glad

for it too! Your smeller will hopefully become less sensitive soon as well.Good luck! Hang in there!

Hi dimples,

Please believe me, what you are feeling is VERY normal. I dealt with a lot of nausea as well post op. Potatoes hated me... so potato Soup was out of the question. Also, my sense of smell was heightened as well. My taste buds were out of whack and my energy level was non existent.

But, here I am today 7 months out and I do not suffer from one of those things anymore. I have more energy now than I ever have!! It really does get better. The first month is by far the toughest - but it's only reserved for the toughest by far. ;) Hang in there darlin', it will all work out. So many awesome things lie ahead!!!

Hugs!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
