PROTEIN SHAKES = PUKE

Recommended Posts

I'm sure there's a thread on here somewhere but Does anyone have any advice on how to get more Protein in without shakes? The shakes make ne want to throw up! I'm almost 1 month out but can only eat about 2 - 3 oz maybe 3 - 4 times a day. I know that's clearly not enough but I don't know what else to do?

I spent 400 bucks on Proteins cause i couldn't stomach many on my pre-op... then I found powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate and I bought a Blender Bottle.. I add my skim milk 8 ounces and the powder then some crushed ice and I mix it with a hand held beater and throw in the little whisk for the Blender Bottle and it's like a shake an I just keep shaking it to make it frothy to get down :)

I hated all the proteins.. OMG.. I tried them all and this is the only one I could stomach!!

I didnt like any of the Protein Shakes I tried. Then I saw someone mix a crystal lite pack with their no fat greek yogurt and liked it so I mixed it with some 1% milk in a blender and total of 28 grams of Protein and it wasnt bad, a little bit of a dry taste but so much better than the protein shakes I've tried. Used an orange pack and tasted like an orange cream cicle, also used a peach one and if you like peachy tasting things that was good too.

I didn't Luke Amy Protein Shakes either until I found Unjury vanilla and chocolate splendor. BUT , here's the key you have to add flavor, I do it w a few slices of banana and/ or a tbsp dry pudding powder( whatever flavor u want) and/ or SF Torani Syrup. My favorites so far r choco splenor w banana and hazelnut syrup and van w whit choco syrup and raspberry syrup. They don't even taste like "protein" to me, they taste good. I use milk in mine and I do 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 scoop of Protein because that's all I can do at one time. I add 3-4 ice cubes and put it in a blender.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
