When I first came home from my doctor talking about having WLS my husband was shocked- definitely. The surgery sounded extreme to him- and he ws scared of the possible complications. However, after I went to my first visit with the surgeon and I told my husband the surgeon could see me ending up in a wheelchair followed by an early death- that was all it took for my husband to climb on board and back me up.

It has been hard for him because the more I delve in to this and read all the stories here, and on You Tube, the more my lifelong pain has started to come out- causing things to be more emotional than usual around here! He has put up with all of it.

I realized just how much he supports me today when he came home from costco with a Magic Bullet kit including all kinds of attachments to help me during my purees and mushies.

What a sweetheart!

I'm so happy for you Meggie, it's so important that your husband supports you! My husband has been very supportive as well, even though I'm sure at some point he was sick of me going on and on about surgery, and on the internet all the time reading stories, watching videos on you tube etc.

I wish you the best of luck and you're gonna love your sleeve!

Awwwwww! That is so sweet. My husband had the same concerns for me, but most of all wanted me to be healthy. Unfortunately, he did not survive to see me realize my dream. But he was super supportive when he was still here. My surgeon consult was scheduled in June, and he landed in the hospital. I refused to go to my appointment and was going to cancel it. He put his foot down and ordered me to go. I had never left him while he was in the hospital before. But I went at his insistence. The last voice mail I have on my phone is him telling me he is fine, just laying around. He died the very next week and I had to go through surgery without him. This was very tough, and I wanted to back out, but his wishes kept haunting me. Unbeknownst to me, he had spoken with my daughter and asked her to stand in for him during my surgery if he was not around. She was with me all the way and has been ever since. My dear husband was definitely a keeper in every sense of the word.

Your story touches me, and saddens me also. How lucky you are to have had such a wonderful husband. I too have the most wonderful, supportive husband and I admire the strength and courage it took for you to go through with the surgery as he wished. I hope you are doing well, I'm sure you've got a guardian angel helping you and motivating you along the way.

I am so very sorry for your loss. You are incredibly strong to still go through the surgery while you were grieving. I would never have had the emotional strength to do that. Thank goodness you had your daughter with you. Best of luck to you with your recovery; hopefully your loss gets easier to deal with every day.

This made me cry and hug my husband close. I am glad you followed your husbands dream for you! I Know he is watching every goal and victory and is with you. Hugs for you from me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
