So frustrated. This impending surgery for a cyst removal is depressing me and seriously side tracking me from my goals. I've gained weight, a few pounds the last couple of weeks. I'm making bad decisions and it's hard to care. I've just been so bleh, so scared and anxiety wridden that I don't focus on my meal plan at all. Every time I make a bad choice I feel bad, then I swear I'm going to be good from then on. Then something bad is presented or in my face and I say, screw it, I'll do it after I eat this pizza. I did eat the entire salad first with vinigrate dressing to compensate, but I still ate a whole slice of pepperoni and sausage. Maybe that's not so bad. WHO AM I KIDDING.

I'm waiting for the ob/gyn to call with a surgery date and praying it's in the next 2 weeks so I don't have to postpone my sleeve date. :(

How do I get back on track?

There's nothing wrong with having ONE SLICE of pizza! You did the right thing by filling up with vegetables first to avoid overeating. That's basically how I eat now, 8 months out - I don't care for pepperoni/sausage, though, so my choice of pizza would be a slice with chicken/veggies instead. As long as you don't have half a pizza or more, there's nothing wrong with having a slice once in a while. I know it's hard to lose this all-or-nothing mentality, it was a huge problem for me for many years, but just try to acknowledge it as a problem you tend to have and move on. If 80% of your food is healthy, you are doing great!

Don't be so hard on yourself, Momma. The thoughts you are expressing here are the kind of thoughts that brought us all to the place where we needed the sleeve to help save ourselves from ourselves. You are already under stress related to another surgery. Just take it easy for now, do the best you can, get sleeved and move on down the pike. Best wishes...Kathe

I went through this exact same thing last week and am still fighting it off somewhat this week. I totally understand the 'oh screw it' mentality.

It is hard, but what I had to do was force myself to make the right choice. The first few times I was white-knuckling it, I tell you. If there is an easier way, I don't know it. But it DOES get easier after the first few times. And remember - one bite or one meal is not the same as falling off the wagon - one bite at a time, one meal at a time when you can't take it one day at a time. Progress, not perfection.

You have to push yourself and keep the future goal in mind. Giving in to temptation is part of what got some of us (me!) here so breaking that habit is where the real change arises. The surgery is a tool - this is the work we have to do to use that tool to its maximum.

None of that makes it any easier, I know. But sometimes it helps just to know that somebody out there listens and understands - and boy do I ever understand your situation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
