I am having my sleeve done at Kaiser Richmond May 9th and I did not even think to ask if my husband can stay with me or not!!!!

I am sure he would be much more comfortable in a hotel, but I just would like to know if he CAN stay. We live 2.5 hours away from the hospital and going home is not an option.

Thanks,

Kelly

Thanks, that blows. Oh well, he would be more comfortable in a hotel anyway! But, he would make me feel better being there!

Consider yourself lucky if you even get a room. Last month when I had my surgery the hospital was so full two of us never left the post op recovery room. Not very comfortable and the recovery staff will do nothing for you. You have hospital room staff as your support and they didn't seem to want to come down stairs to look in on us. Just my experience. The Dr. and operating staff were excellent.

Oh great! I hope that doesn't happen! I guess it really doesn't matter where I am, I will be uncomfortable and felling like crap wherever!! LOL

As long as they don't lay me on the floor, I am good.!! :D

I had surgery in December and it was really crowded that day as well. I was in recovery for 4 hours before they got a bed for me. At first no one was going to stay with me, but my stepfather was able to stay. He was not comfortable because he was sleeping in a chair....but because my roomate wanted her husband to stay the nurses said as long as we both agreed then they could stay. I was super thankful that I had someone there though. I had to go to the bathroom every hour after 9pm. It would have been really hard to call the nurse in everytime in order to help me take off those stockings and unplug my machine. Plus he walked around the halls with my everytime I got up. If you can get someone to stay, I would try...otherwise just make sure the nurse will be there to help.

Oh and my mom had surgery in Jan and she got a room really fast. Her husband also got to stay and he was able to grab one of the chairs that fold out into a recliner (he learned when he stayed with me that they have those chairs in some of the rooms, its first come first serve though). Just make sure to ask the nurse right off the bat about it once you get into your room. My night and morning nurse were super nice. The one that I had right after I got into my room was not that great...but then I was in a lot of pain and she didn't have my pain machine working!!!!

Hey ladies, how long was the process for each of you through Kaiser? I'm just trying to get an idea.

I think it really depends on YOU!!

I know a girl that did it all in 3 months. It took me 6, but I took my time losing my weight. I had to lose 20lbs and was not with the program in the begining! That was all me!! Then, I kicked it in gear and have lost 60lbs and have my date for May 9th!!

The case mgr wondered how I lost so much and why it took me so long. I told her I took my time and wanted to lose a lot before my surgey, so I wouldn't have far to go afterwards!!

So, all in all, I think you can go as fast or as slow as you want. It also depends on which Kaiser you use. So. Cal is ALOT different that N. Cal program. I am in the N. Cal program and they do not require the 12 weeks of Options Classes. That makes a HUGE difference in time!!

It does go fast tho and there are a lot of steps to it. I also had to see my surgeon twice and do additional testing on my esophagus. All in all, I feel it will all be worth it!!

Best of luck to you!!

Kelly :D

Hey ladies, how long was the process for each of you through Kaiser? I'm just trying to get an idea.

My orientation date was 9/123/2010 and my Surgery was 1/3/2011. I could have had my surgery in Dec. but chose not to because I didn't want to be in pain or groggy during the holidays. I had to lose 21 lbs, and was 8 lbs under goal on the day of surgery.
