All surgeries have risk so no promises - but there is a very small chance of dying from VSG surgery. If you are confident in your surgeon and he has an excellent safety rating then no need to be overconcerned. When is your surgery date?

As Iegal pointed out NO ONE can promise you anything. Personally, my brother went in for bunion surgery and came out with an MRSA infection and nearly lost his foot AND his life. Both my wife and I had the same surgery and came through just fine. I know of someone who lost a loved one because they died from infection shortly after having wisdom teeth pulled. They got infected, it went rampant in their system and went to their heart and they died.

Now that I've told you a few horror stories I have to say that there are THOUSANDS of people who have had this surgery and had no complications, very few who have had any and very, very few who have had serious complications and perhaps died from it.

You simply have to trust yourself, the medical professionals who are treating you and whatever "fate" you believe in for a good outcome, weigh the pros and cons and make a decision for yourself. If you are not ready mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually then DON'T have the surgery.

of course there is no guarantee, but I too was very obsessed about the surgery...i check stats, googled my surgeon, watch the video of the surgery on youtube, ask my friends/family about their anesthesiology experiences. I was QUITE annoying...but I was sleeved on 4/11 and so far so good.

Just do your due diligence, research your surgeon, and ask as many questions as needed, and put your faith in God. You'll be finesmile.gif

Raz,

Welcome to the family!

Like you, I initially had the pessimism to think of the worst possible things that could happen. Finally one day I just decided that I would put it in God's hands and if he saw fit to see me through the surgery, then all would be well, and I have been at peace ever since the moment that I truly gave this over to Him.

My surgery was April 11th, 8 days ago and I can honestly tell you that it is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Like others have said, there are no absolute guarantees in this life, but I can tell you that statistically, you're 98% more likely to die from a car wreck than you will this surgery!

How are you feeling today?

Christal

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
