5 months out PICS PICS PICS

Recommended Posts

Hi, It's my 5 month surgiversarry today. I won't say everything has been perfect but I am very happy with my sleeve. My surgery was NOV16 2010, it went great. About 10 days later all the excitement began.. long story short I was put back into the hospital diagnosed with pancreatitus and 3 blood clots in the Mesentaric, Splenic and Portal veins. So I was in for 10 days. I'm now on coumindin, probably for the rest of my life. After a TON of bloodwork I got my results back and found out that I hve a rare blood disorder called Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome. Anyone know anything about this? I've googled everything I can about it..

Anyway, yes I'm happy I had the surgery! In a way it may have saved my life... That blood disorder I have is the #1 killer of women under 50yrs who have strokes. That is not a normal thing to test for.

So... starting weight I weighed 267 day of surgery 260 (Nov 16,2010), Current weight right now April 16,2011 is 197! total of 70lbs since pre op weight! YAY! I'm 5'5" my goals weight is 140.... and maybe once I get there maybe 130 (hehe).

Looking terrific!! And it is absolutely awesome that they found you had that condition before it really did some serious damage. It appears to be pretty treatable, so it's great that they caught it. :)

That is great that you found this and was treated. Was anything caused by the surgery ( blood clots) or was the pancreatitus just something that happened? Who was your surgeon and where did you have your surgery? Do you feel a lot more healthy now after the surgery?

I found out from the test of the pancreatitus that it caused by my bad gullbladder, I have a "low functiouning" Gallbladder and it's full of stones from the rapid weight loss.. I really wish he would have taken out when I got the sleeve, My autoimmune disorder is just genetic and that along with the pancraititus is was cause the 3 clots

I feel SO much better, healthier, more energy. I smile more! I'm not the fattest person in the room YAY! I'm looking forward to the next few months I hope to meet goal by my 1 year anniversay

I had the sleeve done at Miami Valley Hopsital in Dayton, OH - Premeier Metabolic- DR. Teel. Most wonderful doctor! I trust him enought that I feel fine with my mom getting it done by him. She is just starting her process now. :)

You look great! Way to rock that sleeve!

My Dr. told me that having this surgery usually uncovers many things they don't look for and saves people's lives in so many ways! I am glad that they found out!!

Keep up the good work!! And good luck!

Kelly

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
