Chicadee 10 Posted April 16, 2011 Good question, I wanted to ask the surgeon the same thing. I found it on the dictionary online. Here is a link to it and you can hear them say it: http://www.merriam-w...ctionary/bougie Does anyone know what is the standard size that is used for this? feedyoureye 3,087 Posted April 16, 2011 Between 28-60. The most common sizes used are between 32 and 40.
Tiffykins 673 Posted April 16, 2011 Boo(emphasis on the Boo)- zhee The standard size has been narrowed down to 32fr to 40fr. Here is a PDF file flip to page 5, and you can see the minimal difference in size between a 32 and 40. It's like 2.3 mm in diameter difference. http://www.medovations.com/pdf/Esophageal_Dilatation.pdf Anything over a 40fr was showing a higher incidence of regain. As a reference, my bougie was a 36, or 12 mm... and 1/2 Inch = 12.70 mm, so my stomach was made to around 1/2". I know that my surgeon cuts the pylorus end bigger, and cut the whole thing a little bigger before stitching it up, so I don't know the exact size, but its pretty small!
