I am 3 days post op and I haven't had any real problems so far. The only thing that has bothered me is when I try to drink I get this tightness in the top of my throat. I'm wondering if it's just still from some swelling or maybe reflux. I'm leaning more towards swelling because it hurts immediately when I swallow. Did anyone else have this problem?

Might be swelling from them poking around in there while intubating you. Give it a few days, if it doesn't get better, then check in with your doctor!

When I'm sipping my fluids, I can have maybe 3 small sips in a span of 5 -15 minutes or else my belly gets really gurgly and I get burpy. Sometimes I feel a tightness not necessarily in my throat but in the top of my chest like I am most definitely super full. When that happens, I back off and don't drink anything again for at least 15 - 30 minutes.

Your throat is most likely irritated and swollen because of the breathing tube as well as the boughie that went down via your throat. It should subside over time. If it doesn't start getting better after a few days I would definitely check in with your doctor. I've heard alot of people have swelling for even a couple of weeks after.

I would defentily wait for a few days. I know when I had my surgery that damn tube they stuck down my throat was soo annoying afterwards.. I had a sore throat had issues with swallowing..I would say if it doest get better within a week you should call your doc. As for drinking make sure your top lip is covered with Water before you swallow. This will help a lot with the amount of air you swallow. We really don't get who is easy it is to swallow air and first week or two it really hurts going down and dealing with.

I am 6 days post op and I sometimes feel like I there's something in my throat that I need to swallow but there's nothing there. I think it's just the swelling.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
