Not sleeping after surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok, I usually REALLY like my sleep. During the week i like a good 8 hours, but since surgery the most i can manage is 3/4. Im up and down and tossing and turning. Its driving me mad!

Has this happened to anyone else and did you find a solution for it? Maybe just time? I go back to work on Sun, working with small children so i need a good sleep before then!

I also had this problem right after surgery for a week or so. I was only sleeping for like 3 hours. I tried benedryl because it was on the ok list but that didn't even phase me. So I called my clinic and they told me I was able to take tylenol pm. It was normal for some people to sleep tons after surgery or very little at all. After taking the tylenol pm, I was able to start sleeping normal again and feeling better and better everyday.

Good luck and sweet dreams!!!

I didn't sleep very well after surgery either; it was hard to get comfortable plus I was usually taking a nap in the afternoon. It went away pretty quickly; certainly after a couple weeks I was sleeping normally.

I was able to take the round tylenol pm tablets whole. I could feel them going down, but thankfully they did. My doctor said if I had to cut them to take the pieces five minutes apart.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
