I am not changing my mind

Recommended Posts

I cant believe how awesome this board is!.. Seriously! I love it more than the OH boards.. It is like a family!

I find myself tracking everyone and reading most of the blogs and may be rereading some of the posts... I should always be thankful to GOD that I found this board.

Now, after saying I am brave enough, I am doing this for myself! and I can actually do this! I am freaking out! I keep having sleeping problems, visualizing the day I will walk myself to a hospital asking for pain! yes pain! I am very sensitive! may be a coward! . I cant believe I will be able to proceed! although I know I will. I know I will wear the gown and let them do the pre op procedures but then what!! how can I give them the permission to drag me to the surgery room! and cause me pain:( I remember with the band, I woke up to a terrifying pain! I dont wanna feel that pain again.

Dont take my post as if I am changing my mind or something. I just needed to let this out and let someone else know that although I act brave infront of my family I am still panicing deep inside! I dont wish anyone who is having the surgery near to read this .. I really need words of encouragement! something to think of when I try to say no I changed my mind dont put me under anesthesia !

I am doing this knowing I might not reach my goal! and I might end up losing 50 pounds at most.. I know it will be so worth it. But I am afraid of the surgery, Afraid I might not make it, I still didnt live! my fat never allowed me to! Also I am afraid of the pain:(

Well, there I let you know about my everyday thought while I am trying to sleep .. that moment they will drag me to the operation room! and will I make it there..?

Thanks again for listening XOX

The pain will only be but a moment in time compared to the new healthy lifestyle you will aquire. Just remember that a few days of pain will all be forgotten when you are pain-free and working towards your goal. Only to be a distant memory.

I asked the same questions 5 months ago when I had my surgery. I was so ready to get up, pull out my IV and leave. I was in such a bad mood when I thought I would be so happy. I'm a single mother and was so afraid of doing surgery I didn't really need and leaving my kids. My doctor came in while I was crying and told me he never lost anyone but if I continued being this overweight I could die from health issues. Today I can't even put in words how happy I am I went through with it. For me I had very little pain. Just try to let go and let the nurses and doctor take control and you will make it through, be positive. A few day of feeling bad is worth a lifetime of feeling good: ) Good luck Janine

I have not been banded so I don't know how that feels post op. But I can tell you that some people feel no pain after VSG. I was one of them. I had some nausea and a little soreness (like I did a lot of sit-ups), but no pain. I could walk with no issues except for carrying around the IV pole and sporting the fashionable hospital gown (with a second one over my back like a robe).

It might not be as bad as you are envisioning. You can do this!

Honestly, the pain was only bad for a day, and that was very hazy! Im 12 days out now and i can barely remember it. All i can think about now is how quickly my scale is moving down! Keep checkin in on this board every day and ask us any questions you have. That is what kept me going!

Since you've had another abdominal surgery (i.e. the band) and woke up with lots of pain, maybe you could make a request that they give you a dose of pain medication just before or as you're waking up. I'm not sure if this is possible, but I know that they want you to be as comfortable and pain free as possible after surgery.

You can do it!!

Before surgery they gave me something to help me to relax and it was wonderful. I barely remember going into the operating room but I knew that I was doing the right thing. The pain was not bad after surgery. I actually don't remember waking up until I was actually placed in my room and my husband was smiling at me at the foot of the bed. Everyone is different with pain but if you are in pain ask for the pain medicine. I had shots every 4 hours and I also had others prescribed but I did not need them. Just focus on the end of the journey....how you are going to look and feel once you have lost all that weight. I now weigh at my lowest weight since 1986. I am only 20 lbs away from what I weighed when I got married.

Loou, I am a major coward I will probably spend the rest of my life never knowing how in the world I found the courage to go through with. In the end I came to believe that one way or another I would end up in the hospital in pain the real question was whether I'd be there for the sleeve or some weight related issue. The decision was easier then. And now 6 1/2 months post I can say without any hesitation that it was the best decision I've ever made. Good luck.

Yes they are good about pain meds. Pain is a stimulant and debilitating so they make sure people are comfortable. My doctor allowed me to have morphine orally every 30 minutes if needed. I didn't hsve a pump I couldny control like some do. The only pain thst was temporarily bad was getting out of bed (roll out on your side) and whenbthe assistant sqeezed my drain tube. Had to have morphine it hurt so badly but thstbmorogine works fast!

Sorry I meant morphine works fast in previous message. Stupid cell phone. The first day was the worst but they did a great job of keeping me comfortable.

I'm a wimp too, but once I was headed to the hospital, I just never gave myself the option of not going through with it. I was in process and was just going to follow it all through no matter what. I had nausea post-op, but very little pain. It was an easy recovery for me, surgically speaking. You can do it!

Here are my pearls of wisdom for you: I am 5 days out. THERE WAS NO PAIN. My surgery date was a walk in the park it was so pain free. I'm serious! I got sick the next day with fever and high bp but the NEXT day I was back on track. The pre-op hour was not bad at all. I had great nurses whose needles were barely felt. I WAS AMAZED. No pain! And had I known the painkiller in the iv would help make me sick I wouldn't have used any because I really didn't need it. One more time: NO PAIN. There was a girl in our support group who thought she had done something wrong. She had band to sleeve surgery and woke up thinking our doctor hadn't done anything. She had, guess what? NO PAIN!!! Think of it as a countdown. "This time tomorrow, I'll be .....whatever"......I saw my surgeon yesterday and here I am having a scrambled egg for Breakfast already! I'm having my second cup of coffee as I write this. good luck to you. Stay busy! Walk and sip and walk and sip. You'll be fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
