I have been tracking Ruby for awhile on her show and while I admire her working out and eating right. I wonder to myself why she doesn't have the Sleeve Surgery?

Thought?

I know what you mean- once you embrace something as we have it is hard not to think it is the right thing for everyone. I have to really keep my mouth shut at my Water aerobics as so omany of the peope in my class could really benefit!

The thing about Ruby is that she needs to get to the bottom of her issues or she will fail at anything even the Sleeve. Seems pretty clear she was abused in her past and is not wanting to deal with it.

Didn't you hate it when she was so awful to that trainer who had made that course just for her? She get's so stubborn and childish sometimes.

Yeah that trainer situation was bad.

I think she needs a lot of psych help -- she seems to get it, but I am thinking not for her.

She is a lovely person and I would love to see her happy. She just seems like someone everyone should be friends with.

The response about the money -- sooooo true. She has a house in Savannah and Los Angeles -- interesting.

Hi, I have a good friend who us heavier then I was and has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and kidney damage. Having WLS was originally her idea. After going through Kaiser's option classes all she heard were negatives. I got sleeved right after she decided against it. We see each other often eat out together with our husbands. I am 6 1/2 months out now and have lost 65 pounds and have had no issues. She does not want the sleeve. We went out to lunch with a friend of ours she is scheduled for hip and knee replacement and can barely walk. Her husband has been pressuring her to lose weight. She doesn't want a sleeve. I don't get it if our roles had been reversed I would get mine in a heart beat! Denial? food addiction? Then again it is a ^major^ decision and does require commitment.

All surgery is more dangerous with "super-sized" people, which may mean that it was impossible for Ruby to have it done until she lost weight, and now she has the show so she's making money.

Also agree that Ruby need to get to the bottom of her over eating. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and can point to all the red flags in Ruby's life for that. It must be incredibly painful to either truly not remember it or work so hard to hide it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
