Welcome! I think you're going to love this site! So many wise people; it is a continuous source of inspiration, support and information for me!

Keep in mind that something like only FOUR percent of people who are seriously obese are able to lose the weight and keep it off. I don't see weight loss surgery as the easy way out; I see it as the ONLY way out for people in our situation. Why deprive yourself of a healthier life?

Good luck!

Ann

I have Kaiser in N. Cal, too. I have my first consultation on May 10th and it cannot come fast enough!! So what do I do from there? I don't have to take the 12-week class? So far, I know they weigh me, I have to lose 10%, I have to schedule all the pre-op appts. (did you have to do the swallow and the sleep apnea test?) What else? Share your wealth of knowledge with me. :D lol

It seems to me that people with conditions like PCOS that make i hard to lose weight should have a lower requirement- if you could lose the weight that easily you would not need surgery!

The little devil in me thinks you could to what the manipulators on Biggest Loser do - push the Water intensely before your first weigh in so your weight is artificially high... ;-P

lol, it's funny you say that because the morning of the orientation where they weighed us in, I ate a really salty Breakfast and drank a TON of Water. I had to pee SOOOO bad but I was holding it. My friend was there with me as my support person and I told her "I don't want a couple extra pounds to just go down the toilet.... literally." LOL. I saw people walking into the bathroom before weigh-in and I just kept thinking "Noooo, don't do it!" ha ha.

I've lost 10 pounds since the initial weigh-in and I wonder to myself how much of it was just my salty Breakfast and water :P Oh well, 10 pounds is 10 pounds! I'll take it. I find out my "magic number" tomorrow. Hopefully they don't give me too much more to lose, because this PCOS is such a little devil.

I am a newbie to this site as well. I went to a seminar on May 18th to see what bariatric surgery was all about. I decided to call and make an appointment the next day! I had my appointment on May 26th along with my nutritional and psych consult. I received a letter from my insurance company on June 6th saying it was approved and just yesterday the doctors office called to schedule my surgery for the beginning of August. Yikes....it's all kind of moving so fast!!! I have to do a liquid diet for 10 days before my surgery and a few pre op tests and I'm good to go....I think :)

Reading all the other posts about it taking months is kind of scaring me....why are they pushing my through so quickly????

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
