how long were you off work?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for reading this its so varied from person to person. This why I am having trouble deciding to take time off. I think two weeks is enough I am 26,healthy and have a 44 BMI. I work out three to four days a week and am lucky to have a small fridge in my office and an amazing boss. My boss has IBS so he understands what it is like to have to eat special diets. Also my job is physical so its low impact exercise and the walking is going to be good for me. It will cause faster weight loss. I am going to take two weeks. my surgeon said someone of my fitness level and age can probably go back after 7 to 10 days. He said it varies. I just had an enoscopy Monday and was fine after, It depends on the person!

I had my surgery on July 22nd and as of today I'm feeling pretty strong. I'll go back on august 15th. I hope it's not too soon but I think I'll do okay. I have a desk job and work from a home office. I can take a quick nap if needed. And I have all my food, etc handy. Good luck with your recovery. You will do great!

I'm going back to work Monday (1 day shy of 4 weeks). I'm a teacher so that is our first day back after summer, and I've needed every day of these 4 weeks. I've had a lot of incision pain, which is just now feeling good on a consistent basis.

I had surgery on July 26th and returned to a fairly physical job on August 1st. I acutally worked a 36 hour shift with only 1 hour of sleep and did well. It was actually easier for me to get my fluids and Protein in when I was forced to be up and moving. Since that shift, I have worked daily and will work a 48 hour shift this weekend, hopefully with more sleep. I have done well, but I must admit it would have been nice to have a little more time off, but it was impossible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
