At Water aerobics I was Water walking with someone and discussing stomach acid. She has not had the surgery but had a long history of having EVERYTHING cause acid stomach- even water. There was always a sour feeling in her stomach, and a terrible taste in her mouth.

Her Dr. gave her prilosec RX with unlimited refills- and she was concerned as she heard that such medications can cause fractures in women, ultimately over time weakening the bones.

She did some research and found that it was reported that drinking unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar can help She decided to try drinking a teaspoon of it in a cup of warm water every morning and was soon completely without symptoms!

I knew I should share this here as so many of us suffer with this after surgery and it seems like a great option for us in the long term!

If anyone tries it, let me know if it works. I plan to do it as soon as I have surgery...as long as my tum tum can handle it.

I have also heard this. Seems counterintuitive to take acid to cure acid, but hey, whatever works. I have no idea where I'd source unfiltered cider vinegar...maybe a health food store? That said, my acid isn't very bad so maybe I don't need to worry about it. :D

I've read it also, and hope to try it post-op as well. If I can find it. I am not real close to any Health food stores or even Whole Foods or Trader Joes. I wish I were.

I have tried it, and felt that it DID do some good. My problem is that that flavor is so strong that I now have an aversion to it and just can't drink it (even diluted in water/splenda). I did stop taking my PPI and only use chewable gaviscon now and only occasionally.

There was another thread on here about the ACV, with all the various health attributes, you should search it out, was really helpful information.

I tried drinking it a couple of times, and it burned going down so I'll stick to the Nexium or Prilosec.

As for the bone weakening issues, the PPI DOES NOT weaken bones. These drugs cause Calcium to NOT be properly/fully absorbed that is why the recommendation to supplement with calcium citrate is the recommended Calcium option for people on a PPI long term. Carbonate needs food and/or an acidic environment to absorb properly and even then it's the cheapest, least effective and least absorbed calcium source. When we take a PPI, we have no acid, and absorption of citrate does not need food or an acidic environment.

I never tried the vinegar idea but presleeve I would get "acid attacks" so badly I'd wake up choking on the stuff. I used to drink a shot of heavy whipping cream and that'd settle the real bad acid and make the burning in my throat stop. I know it's not sleeve friendly and I haven't had to do it since being sleeved but that is something that worked for me in the past. It tasted terrible but burning acid throat was definitely worse.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
