I am 9 months out from surgery and have lost a significant amount of weight. At this point I feel like I am eating too much. My nutritionist and doctor never gave me any specific amounts to eat or calories to count. They basically told me to eat slowly and until I am full and then stop. Of course they said to eat Protein first and then veggies. I continue to lose weight although not as rapidly as I did in the beginning. At times I can eat a whole sandwich and other times I can eat a cup of cottage cheese and be full. I still eat WAY less than I ever could have before. And I have never eaten to the point of nausea or being sick so I don't really know that I am over eating. Has anyone else noticed or felt that they are eating too much? I don't want to stretch my stomach out and fail at this and am getting a little concerned about the amount of food I can eat. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

I have heard it's diff for everyone depending on the bougie size used, length of your stomach, how fast it empties, type of food etc.

Personally, I am one of these who can eat more. I eat about a cup to a cup and a half of food at four months, depending on the food. I am losing well so I am not concerned. I think do what's best for you. Others limit themselves to 1/2 a cup no matter how much they can eat.

I think you are likely at your maximum since you are healed, and if it's working then hooray!

Hello JulyBride;

Are you able to check with your surgeon to see if he has any guidelines for you to follow? As a previous professional dieter, I can remind you that if you eat too many calories and do not burn off those calories that equals weight gain.

So you state you are still loosing weight and also eating Protein first (good choices :) ) which sounds right. Here is one to look at: http://www.gastricsl...leeve-diet.html for post op sleeve patients.

Here is one without caloric information but does have a food log with Protein grams for most foods. This would be good for newbies.

http://www.cornellwe...gastrectomy.pdf

Hope this helps.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
