Holy cow...this stuff is nasty

Recommended Posts

Sooooooo....anyone in Canada know of a decent tasting ready made Protein shake that is low carb? I looked online at the Slimfast optima and they have 20g Carbs..yikes!!

I'm trying to choke back the stuff I have and who knew that eating liquid chalk could result in a 3lb loss in 3 days and it's my time of the month!

I was just wondering if anyone lucked into finding a ready made that isn't nasty. Thanks all.

Mysherrijo and salljo -I did look for the Atkins at the Superstore and didn't see it and I've never seen Isopure anywhere...where did you buy yours?

Funny: any particular flavor that you prefer over the others?

Drewslou and Moorless: Where did you buy the advant?

Yoda: The only reason I was going to try ready made was because both of the ones I bought were sooooo chalky and I thought the cans would be smoother going down. I really didn't want the pre op to be a 300.00 experience on it's own but geeez...I may have to actually waste 3/4 of a can of two different kinds. DH even tried to get creative and add a crystal light package to the vanilla....Hola...God love him...but that was a definite no.

Anyways I shall go on a hunt for something else to try....thanks all for the suggestions.

A word of caution about the Isopure. (It can be found at GNC, by the way), Although the FLAVORS were O.K., they always seemed to leave a funny film in my mouth kind of like it was sucking all the liquid out of my mucous membranes. It was weird and it made me not want to drink it unless I ABSOLUTELY had to.

If I had to have a ready made Protein drink, the Boost drinks are O.K. in a pinch. Both the regular Boost (not plus, which is yucky) and the Boost breeze (fruity) are tasty and come in several flavors.

I also liked the SF Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks. They were probably the most tasty to me even though they may not have had quite as much Protein as Boost.

Myoplex by EAS has 42 grams of Protein and tastes good. It has 23 grams of carbs but that's not bad considering the 42 grams of protein. You can get them at Walmarts and GNC. The website has free shipping on orders over $75.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
