graymadebbie 0 Posted April 9, 2011 I'm just starting to research VSG. I'm 5'7" about 215 pounds and I'm 58 years old. I want to be thin. I've lost weight a million times but never can keep it off. It just gets harder the older I get. Am I too old to consider this surgery?
****** 12 Posted April 9, 2011 I'm just starting to research VSG. I'm 5'7" about 215 pounds and I'm 58 years old. I want to be thin. I've lost weight a million times but never can keep it off. It just gets harder the older I get. Am I too old to consider this surgery? I'm 56 and don't consider it old at all. My reasoning for going this route is that if I live as long as my grandmother did (93), then I have 37 more years of living (more or less). I don't know if I could do it if I don't have this surgery, and I don't want to live for the next 20-40 years if they're like the ones I've already lived through -- fat, sick and tired. So, for me, I'm going for it on April 26th and can hardly wait.
seniorsleever 17 Posted April 9, 2011 I am 10 1/2 weeks out from surgery and I turned 55 about 5 weeks ago. I have too much life ahead of me to continue the weight battle. The surgery works! I would never have lost this much weight on my own, or kept it off if I did. Go for it!
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted April 9, 2011 Hi I am 58 but I have been sleeved for 2 years at the end of this month. I wish I had done it years ago. You are not to old. Get sleeved. You'll never regret it!
Beadingnurse 116 Posted April 9, 2011 I just turned 57 last month and I am having the surgery next Tuesday! You are definitely not too old! Do your research on the surgery...this website is a great place to learn from the folks who have already made the jump. I considered it for over a year before I made the commitment and now I don't know what took me so long!
nraeh 23 Posted April 9, 2011 I am a "young" 63 years old with no health problems other than sleep apnea. I am having it done next month. I can't wait to be considered of "normal" size. I don't need to be a model or thin - I just want to be within the normal range. Baby boomers have a lot of living yet to do!!!!
Foxbins 625 Posted April 9, 2011 I am 56 and 5'8". I was 232 the day of surgery less than 3 months ago and I'm 194 today. No complications and no problems healing. I also had a big hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I say go for it!
Luanne 32 Posted April 9, 2011 I'm 56 and just like the rest:: I wish I'd had it done years ago! xxx
meggiep 57 Posted April 9, 2011 I will be seven weeks away from my 58th birthdy on my sleeve day next month. It is never too late to get your life back!
KellyL 173 Posted April 9, 2011 No way!! I see a lot of people here and OH getting sleeved all the time!
Free2B 8 Posted April 9, 2011 Hi there, I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago, as I'm 61. All of the responses were positive. My surgeon told me last week that he has performed the sleeve surgery on a 78-year-old and that age alone needn't factor into the decision. Good luck to you!. I'm 53(soon to be 54) and am a year out. I had high bp and rhuematoid arthritis and I did fine, my 61 yr old cousin had it 3 weeks ago and is 21 lbs down and doing great other than a little soreness in the incison where they removed the stomach. The quality of life is better so why not be a healthier, slimmer 58?
