4 Weeks Post-Op - Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am new to this, so forgive me as this is my first post. I had the VSG on March 7, 2011. I began my journey at 213 although they have me at 207, so to date I am now at 181  I had my surgery on a Monday and was due to come home on Wednesday but they kept me until Thursday as I was having some issues from the medications stringing me out and making me very tired. Once I got out and came home, I have been fine. It was a quick and painless surgery as well. It hasn't been too bad so far, but I'm having a hard time because I've always been a picky eater. I'm a meat and potatoe person and I'm not much on fruits and vegetables so this has become somewhat hard for me. I used the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury in the hospital, and it wasn't bad, however since coming home, I just cannot drink it and I'm worried I'm not getting all the Proteins in that I need and I don't want to stall my weight loss. I've tried the chocolate Unjury and just can't handle it, I even purchased the non-flavored and tried putting it into things such as mashed potatoes, puddings, drinks, etc., and I just can't handle it. Recently I talked with a friend of mine that has the Ruyn Y and she was able to use the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I have been able to do that one, and probably should be doing it twice a day for the proteiin. Just seems as though my tastes have changed. I even couldn't stand the Vitamins that I purchased, but was told I can take 2 Flintstones per day, so plan on going to purchase those tomorrow, along with taking a Vitamin B.

I don't like cottage cheese, I do like milk, eggs, chicken, refried Beans, so I'm getting Proteins that way. I drink sugar free koolaid during the day, some Water and some Propel. It's hard getting 64 oz down each day. I probably do about half of that. I do try to make sure no matter where I am, I have something to drink.

I have been exercising. I started out about 10 minutes a day, and now am anywhere between 15-30 minutes on the treadmill almost every day. (I had not been able to walk or exercise much in the past 2 years due to an ACL Construction that ended up fracturing my Patella, so I feel good now that I have lost weight to be able to walk more, in fact I think I've walked more on the treadmill since surgery than I have in the past 2 years, so I'm doing good there).

I'm trying to be positive on all of this, but sometimes its hard. Some times I just feel full and don't feel like eating or drinking, but I know I need to keep doing it. Just wondering out there what other tips people have for someone like me. I have been told by lots of people that I look great because it obviously shows that I have lost weight. I have a bad habit of every morning getting on the scales before my shower. I have done this for years, but now I'm trying to not do it every day, maybe one a week and trying not to be disappointed when I'm at the same weight for a week, but, it does catch up and shows even a few pounds so that is good.

I'm open to suggestions......

I was going to mention the same things- try the Syntrax samples- they are pretty to cheap to sample all flavors. Also the Isopure- I can only drink the Grape Frost but a lot of people like the Alpine Punch too. Great job on the exercise- I think you're doing great. I need to get on that- been slacking. I also do the chewable flinstone vitamins- work pretty good. Keep at it and it will get better- good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
