Finger crossed! what really made me come back is that small statement written in the back saying: not for weight reduction! LOL

My only concern with Protein was that the protein:carb ratio was a minimum of 4:1, and this one would be suitable with the 20gr of Protein and only 5 gr of carbs. If you mix it with milk, you'll need to add those protein and carbs and calories to get an accurate count.

Just be prepared to not be able to tolerate it even if you like it pre-op. I know you think the taste won't matter, but when it's causing instant nausea, or induces vomiting, you aren't going to want to drink it because it will just impede healing.

I loved many of the Proteins pre-op. Post-op yeah, I went through over 20 different flavors, brands and varieties until it was figured out that 1) I could not tolerate the taste/smell/texture of some of them 2) I developed lactose intolerance and whey is a Milk product, and my whey protein intolerance is still in full force to this day.

I still can not drink Protein drinks without getting immediate gas, diarrhea and sometimes vomiting. I still can not drink a glass of milk, or eat full milk fat ice cream.

Keep your receipts on big tubs because GNC and Vitamin Shoppe will take back open/partially used products.

Thanks a lot for the info! I tried couple before on my band journey and I was disgusted! :(

last one I tried a year ago made me feel what u are talking about! Nausea and gas in my stomach! I was worried something was seriously wrong with my band and I have to cut my drive to the gym back home and stayed unwell for like 2 hours.. then I was never back to any Protein shake!

But after loooooooots of reading on here and on OH I figured I wont be able to make it without Protein shakes! and I went and purchased this one from a pharmacy .. we dont have GNC here were I live.. I am in the mid dle east u know?

So I wont think they will take it back unless I didnt open it.. which I didnt!

I never had a lactose intolerance! I drink a cup of latte every day with skimmed milk and I enjoy milk stuff .. so I dont know how can I have this feeling u are describing with Protein shakes and still can manage other milk stuff?.. I think I am stuck with this one even if tasted horrible.. my only concern was the back statement "not for weight reduction" and the nutrition value as I am new to this! I didnt know there was evil shakes until I read this board:)

Now I cant think of anyway to get through my liquid stage after I have my surgery, if this doesnt work :S

PS: calling my doctor tomorrow to know my surgery date!! SO excited! and Tiff. I decided the last thing I will think of before been put under anesthesia is ur success story :))

Muscle Milk Light is Lactose free. I love it. I think it's delicious.

You're better off going to the food section and ordering some samples. There is a thread there of all the places you can order sample so you don't get stuck with a big tub of anything.

Sometimes the lactose intolerance comes after you have the surgery.

Good luck!

Lactose and whey protein intolerances can occur post-VSG. It's a fairly common occurrence so I was simply trying to prepare you for it if in the event you can not tolerate milk based products. I never had milk issues before VSG either so it was something that I had to deal with and work through.

None of the protein products are for weight reduction. Protein powders are supplements to any diet program and are typically used as a recovery protein after working out for body builders, and heavy lifters. My husband used them when he was deployed to build muscle mass and to recover after intense lifting sessions. Think of them as a "meal replacement" because essentially that's what you are using them for during the post-op healing period.

I tolerated this one before surgery but afterwards it was toooooooo sweet. Maybe just me, but I sweets and my sleeve don't go hand in hand. At least no yet.

I was the same way with sweet tastes, after three weeks, it got better. I also became lactose intolerant after surgery but at 12 weeks, I can use dairy without much problem.

Most of the samples discussed can be ordered online. I've purchased many of my Protein shakes/powder at Target, Walmart, and costco. You can also check the Vitamin section of your local grocery store or pharmacy, they typically have a small selection of Protein.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
